Nighthawk X10 (r9000) won't recognize my USB drive

Just got the new router, and am excited to get Plex running on it.

When I plug in my hard drive (8tb WD), the USB 3.0 indicator light in the router turns on, and the drive spins up.

But when I go to the Plex page in router settings, I get a message saying no USB devices are connected. =(

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!!!

Probably nothing wrong, except of ... the R9000 firmware. As per several user reports, nothing above 4 TB is workable. Complain to the Netgear customer service please.

Re: Nighthawk X10 (r9000) won't recognize my USB drive

Just tried a new 6TB WD My Book drive formatted with exFat.  No luck.  Will not recognize the drive. Per the above posts, is the 4TB limit real?  When will the 4 TB limit on a Plex server get fixed?  Is the exFat file system issue on earlier releases still a problem?

Re: Nighthawk X10 (r9000) won't recognize my USB drive

The router supports the following file system types.

  • FAT16, FAT32

  • NTFS

  • NTFS with compression format enabled

  • Ext2, Ext3, Ext4

  • XFS

  • HFS

  • HFS+

What are the USB drive requirements for my Nighthawk router?

Tsk, tsk, tsk, ... a 499 US$ list price router and no exFAT license? Netgear - shame on you!

The router can't read ex-fat. I purchased the router just to use plex and running into all kind of issues and even tech support talked about 4 tb limit but I have a 12tb raid drive that it recognizes just fine

Re: Nighthawk X10 (r9000) won't recognize my USB drive

Mine does this every now and then, but I found that  pluging the usb drive into a pc and running error checking from the drives tools tab repaired the drive and then it worked again, worked for me but I cannot  say it will work for everyone, but hey, anything is worth a shot.

Good luck

Is there any timeline for the R9000 to be able to read ExFAT? New firmware update? Not everyone uses PC's...

I have a Seagate Backup+ Desk 5 TB.   The router recognizes it after almost 3 hours.  I've telnet'd into the box and I can't get the thing to mount whatsoever.  And of course, there is no fdisk command Smiley Mad

Agreed.  I too am a iMac user and need this capability.  Please Netgrear, send firmware update so we can format the USB 3.0 to exFAT.  There are many iOS users of Plex and the Nighthawk X10 that need this.
