Nighthawk X6 R8000 Smart Connect Question

Hi,

Ive recently setup the Nighthawk x6 router (firmware V1.0.4.52_10.1.67), and I've turned on smart connect.  I can see the various devices connectting, some streaming devices connecting to 2.4 vs 5, which concerns me. My question is - Will the router automatically shift the device to one of the 5g connection bands if it detects that it required more bandwidth? Thanks.

Re: Nighthawk X6 R8000 Smart Connect Question

I've been playing around with it with varing success on latest FW: V1.0.4.52_10.1.67 seems to work much better.

It should push slower devices to 2.4 (or devices that can't access) - and then 5G1/2 based on their range and capability. I can see my slower and legacy devices on 2.4 and my faster MBP and Iphone on 5GHz now. 2.4GHz will have a longer range though, so if you are futher away it may shift you to that. 5GHz is good for close (say 10m) high speed work.

If it's clogging up the 2.4 you can just have a split network and manually do it (I have better experiences that way to be honest).
