Nighthawk X6 R8000
Am replacing AC1750 which is getting old with X6 R8000 AC3200. I get internett thru Lan for 20 seconds and then nothing. Will not re-connect to Lan or WiFi.
But if I connect X6 into port on AC1750, all WiFi's work work. Need to have both routers booted up. Genie is not help as it only sees the AC1750. What's going on?
Re: Nighthawk X6 R8000
Your footer mentions the C7800. That is a Cable Modem Router.
Do you have an R8000 connected to that? If so you have two routers on the network.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.
What is Double NAT? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.
If you do have two routers, that could explain this:

If you do not have two routers, then you need to recreate your network from scratch. You cannot just rip out one router and stick in a replacement.
You need to get the modem that sits in front of the router to forget its misspent past with the old router. Among other things, that means rebooting the network.
It may help to reboot the whole network in the right order.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
