Speed - 300/20
Router - nighthawk x4 r7500v2
Firmwares I've tried - 10.0.24 - .28
I currently have the Arris DG1670A modem/router in BRIDGED mode and the nighthawk r7500v2 connected. When I test speeds in the QOS speedtest the highest is 124mb/s. I do speedtest on speedtest.net and it goes from 320 and drops to about 120-210mb/s. Same applies with speedOf.me speedtest and DSLreports. Then there are timessage where I only get about 15mb/s down but I have to keep rebooting or restoring to factory settings to get back to the higher speeds mentioned. I'm currently at a loss on what actually is the problem. I just bought the router two days ago. Yes, when I plug directly into modem I get full speeds even 320mb/s at times as well.

Turn off Dynamic QoS. You don't need it with such a fast connection. Even Netgear advises to turn it off with Internet speeds of over 300 Mbps. See page 45 in the R7500v2 manual. Leave WMM on.

Re: Not getting full bandwidth 300/20 on r7500v2
if the speeds drop with wired connection and QOS off and using defaults I would return it. For the router to hose up a wired connection theirs not much you could change in the settings.
try another FW version and or reinstall current version

Re: Not getting full bandwidth 300/20 on r7500v2
I was thinking that as well. That it just may be something wrong with the router or hardware in it. I bought this router because I read it have pretty good upnp and gives OPEN NAT on multiple consoles more so call of duty. And it did just that, it worked for that but the speed was and and is the issue. I'm not sure if I should buy this router again or get an entirely different one. Just curious as to what to do, for what I want the router for, QOS and OPEN NAT on multiple consoles.

Try another one if same problem then you'll know.
"when I plug directly into modem I get full speeds even 320mb/s at times as well"
You should get 320 more times than not when going direct

Sorry for late reply.... Did turning off QOS resolve issues? I'm in SATX with same 300/20 only difference is my router is X8 so ifthis helped you most likely same instructions will help me.
