Not happy with NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk

My local internet provider installed the NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk router for me and it worked for a few days. It then stopped. (I purchased it through Amazon and the provider was nice enough to install it when they were on site.) My provider confirmed that my internet and modem are working. This router is not working. I've contacted Netgear customer support through support tickets for two months and have not received a response. Meanwhile, I'm paying for internet service that I can't use. I am hoping that Netgear reads this comment and reaches out to me.

Jon12345,

The R6700 alone is not capable of providing "internet service".  It has to be connected to something to operate.  Unfortunately telling us "The router is not working" gives us little information if we are going to try and help you.  If your only goal is to post and hope Netgear staff replies we can leave it there.

If you want some help, tell us more about the environment.  The provider, all of your equipment and how everything is connected.  What "isn't working"?  Troubleshooting steps you've performed, what you think is wrong, etc.  Maybe we can help.

In addition to the comments by @shadowsports, you could check the documentation for your router.

There is a manual for the R6700 somewhere at the end of this link:

Re: Not happy with NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk

Thanks. It's just a small apartment. There is a line coming in from Spectrum in St. Louis. It goes to the Spectrum modem. That is connected to the router with a yellow cable. I've tried powering them off/on many times and tried the reset button on both devices. I've performed these operations on the two devices in both possible orders.  I've tried re-installing but it was a couple months ago so I'll need to try again in order to let you know any issues I've had. Same goes for what lights are lit up. I'll follow back up asap. Thanks.

@jon12345

That will be helpful.  Knowing whats in front of your router (Spectrum Modem Model) is important.  The type of device modem only, modem/router combo could impact the mode you choose for your router.

Make sure your modem is working properly (offering internet) to a computer directly connected to it before introducing the router. Then let us know how it goes.

That makes it even more important to answer the question from @shadowsports.

The screen shot you posted hints very strongly that this is a modem/router of some sort.

It may well be that your router is working perfectly, but that you need to get the setup right.

With two routers on your network, you can end up with competing DHCP servers and local address conflicts. To avoid that you need to set the routers up with the right DHCP and IP address settings.

Unless you have specific reasons for using two separate routers, to create two separate networks for example, it is usually easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wireless access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.

Is there any reason why you have not said what the modem is?

Hi @jon12345
I did receive your PM. Not sure why your replies are not showing up here on the thread. I'll have a look in a bit, on the train now heading to work.

Another user might pick this up too before I have a chance to reply.

Re: Not happy with NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk

@jon12345

i've pulled the manual for the TA-1602A and cannot find anything documentation wise about it being a router or having any confgurble settings.

You have internet coming from the TA-1602A, good.  Did you happen to pay attention to the IP it gave your MAC when you connected to it directly with the adapter?

Next...

Power off the modem, disconnect the ethernet cabe between the modem and WAN (yellow) port on the router.

Use the ethernet adapter you have on your MAC and keep your computer connected to one of LAN ports (1~4) on the back of the router.  Log into the router and perform a reset.  While the router is restarting turn the modem back on (don't connect anything to it.

Be patient and pause for a minute or two,

At this point, the modem should be fully started.  Wait another minute for the router to finish booting.

Now connect the ethernet from the modem to the WAN (yellow) port on the router.

Return to your computer, open a browser and navigate to http://www.routerlogin.net

This will launch the routers set up and internet configuration.  Pay attention to any information or error messages as you proceed through the set up wizard.

Hopeful this results in successful connection.

Re: Not happy with NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk

The Arris ta1602 is just a modem with telephone over the internet features it has no router to set up. I have to same modem from spectrum and my r6260 router works just fine without any special settings check the ipv6 settings of the router.

Re: Not happy with NETGEAR R6700 Nighthawk

What lights are lit on the modem you should have a power led, up led, down led, internet led and telephone led if you have phone service with your isp.
