OpenVPN Connect android version 1.1.22 to 1.1.23 refuses to connect to my home VPN server, the CA certificate of the Netgear R7000 has a MD5 signature algorithm which is broken as I read on their FAQ page and therefore not supported anymore. I installed an old version 1.1.17 and then it works again but this is a security risk.

I think that I am not the only one with this problem so Netgear please fix this asap!!!!

You are definitely not the only one experiecing this issue.  I've found two workarounds (until a real solution is provided by Netgear):


  1. Build a custom .OVPN file based on your existing VPN files
  2. Use an older version of the OpenVPN app prior to v1.1.23 (e.g., v1.1.17 worked successfully for me)

You can try the OpenVPN 1.1.24. Other users were able to make it work with the latest update.
