Plex media server and Mac

I have a lot of media stored on my Mac. I'm interested in using the Nighthawk's built in Plex server.  Can it only access media on the USB drive attached to the router?  Or can it be told where media is stored on my Mac and have access to that too?  Or am I better off just installing the Plex server on the Mac?

No. However a local disk is required for operational reasons, even if all media is on the network.

Yes, you can create mounts form the R9000 to a Mac, Windows, or NAS by share files and folders for Windows access -> https://support.apple.com/kb/PH25346?locale=en_US

If there are media requiring transcoding ie. when doing remote access a powerful Mac might be the better choice.

@Case850 Would I be able to access them when away from home using VLC?  I was attracted to Plex because it works outysode the network.
