Printing From Wireless MacBook to Wireless Win10 Shared Printer

MacBook on WiFi.

Win10 PC on WiFi with shared USB printer.

If I disable the PC firewall (McAfee) I can see, setup, and print from the Macbook.

As soon as the firewall is reenabled the macbook cannot print.

Wireless Win10 PC

file and print sharing is enabled

network discovery is enabled

I had a similar problem with my D-Link DIR655 way back and got past it somehow.

If you know the answer please let me know what it is. I really have spent a lot of time experimenting and googling.

This appears to have solved my problem.  I got this off the McAfee forums

An update may have caused some settings to default.

Open SecurityCenter - then open Web and Email Protection , then Firewall.

Go to 'My Network Connections, and if any are marked public or work, use the Edit button to change to Home.

Then go to Ports and System Service and make sure the File Sharing item is checked.

To clarify, the printer is connected to the pc not the router. I am assume ReadyShare only applies to the router connections.

The computers "see" everything on the network except each other.

Hi GeoffreyF,

You have isolated the issue caused by enabling the AntiVirus. Add the compuers on the exemption list of your McAfee or contact McAfee. Router has nothing to do with the restriction of both PCs network visibility.

Re: Printing From Wireless MacBook to Wireless Win10 Shared Printer

Specifically McAfee listed devices by mac address and whether they were considered PUBLIC, WORK, or HOME. My router was identified as PUBLIC and some other devices were identified as WORK or HOME. I set them all to HOME and life was good.
