Any useful messages you saw in the process?

TFTP isn't the easiest of manoeuvres, so it might be worth a web search for videos that show how to do it.

netgear router tftp video - Google Search – netgear router tftp video

Take your pick.

The important thing is to follow all the steps as specified, taking careful note of any prompts and messages that you see.

How to upload firmware to a NETGEAR router using Windows TFTP

You may also have to go through the process a few times before it sticks.

Good luck, you may need it.

Re: R6260 bricked

Hello, I have the same issue but the TFTP firmware cannot be loaded because I'm not able to connect to the router using the cable.

I tried using 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1 but no luck.

Any idea?

Can you explain what "not able" means in this context?

You don't have a LAN port on a PC? In other words, it is physical impossible to connect?

Or are you saying that you have tried it and that your PC will not make a connection through the cable that you have plugged in?

If the latter, without knowing what messages you see when you issue commands, it is anybody's guess as to what is going on.

As in all troubleshooting, you have to do everything in the right way and note down any prompts and error messages that you come across. Without that detail, we are all whistling in the wind.

Re: R6260 bricked

Sorry for beeing too generic ;-)

I'm connected with cable but I cannot ping the router either using the IP 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

For this reason no way to establish a TFTP connection to upload the firmware again as described in many KB articles.

I'm on a Mac and using the "TFTP Client" app.

I tried also to have the reset button clicked during boot but same issue, no IP connection can be established....

Any idea on how to troubleshoot further?

Like "not able", "cannot" is not a useful problem description.  It
does not say what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did
it.  As usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual
results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than
vague descriptions or interpretations.  Especially when using a
command-line program, copy+paste is your friend.

For a model Rxxxx, use "192.168.1.1".  What's the IP address of your
computer?

> I'm on a Mac and using the "TFTP Client" app.

I'd use the built-in command-line TFTP client program.

Re: R6260 bricked

Did you ever try the recovery reset move?

  • Press reset for 30 seconds
  • Keep pressing reset while removing power
  • Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power

This thing should not have died after less then two years. Depending on where you are, and when you bought it, perhaps it is still under warranty.
