R6400v2 Connection speed
I upgraded my internet speed from 100mbps to 400mbps. I installed the new modem that came from spectrum and restarted all my equipment. When I do a speed test wired to the netgear router, I only get a speed on 170mbps. Spectrum had me hook directly up to the modem and do a speed test and the speed was 420mbps. Why am I loosing so much speed after connecting through the router? Firmware is updated, I enabled QoS and WMM, I have cycled through resetting all the equipment a few times. I was thinking about doing a factory reset on the netgear router but havent done it yet. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
QoS isn't recommend with speeds >250mbps.
here's what I'd do and in order of how I'd do it.
1. Disable both QoS and any other traffic monitoring you have enabled such as armor, circle, traftic monitoring, qos. Once those are disabled, reboot the router. Rerun you test.
2. Factory reset the router. I've seen several instances where qos settings were retained. A simple reset and manual reinstall usually fixes these.
What firmware is on your router?
What modem modem did they install?

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
It's their crappy firmware. I had the exact same problem. Upgraded to 500 mbps down from Mediacom and everything is tested successfully without the router at 500 mbps down. Plug in AC1750 with the newest firmware and it slows my speeds down to 200 mbps. Changed out cables and still the same issue.
I just downgraded my firmware from 1.0.4.84 to 1.0.2.52 and my speeds are now over 400 mbps down. Netgear, this is my last router I'll be buying from you. Apparently, this firmware issue is something that goes all the way back to 2017. If you can't fix it, I'm done with your garbage gear.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
I disabled both the QoS and the traffic monitoring. I am going to try and do a factory reset if this doesn't help in the morning.
Firmware Version V1.0.4.84_10.0.58
Moden is E31T2V1
**I just tested and I am connecting at around 200mbps which is up from 70ish I was at over the wifi. I was getting about 170-180 when I am wired and that is also about 200mbps now.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads. (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".) Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R6700v3#download
Click on View Previous Versions.
I confirmed it was the firmware. Factory reset the router after downgrading firmware, confirmed it was working at 500 mbps, then upgrade to the newest firmware and back down to 200 mbps. Downgraded once again to version 1.0.2.52 firmware and back to 500 mbps.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
That should be the same one. Mine says R6400v2 in the top left as well, but they give you the R6700v3 firmware. I was confused at first as well, but the numbers match up for me.

You can see my current firmware that works in that screenshot and the one it's trying to upgrade to.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
Sorry, I'm using an ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor. Lol
Here's a smaller picture. The version I'm using is 1.0.2.52 underlined in red.

The newest version is 1.0.4.84. That one doesn't work for me and gives me slow download speeds, and a few of the prior firmware versions may not work correctly, either.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
Patience and a hardwired connection is the key to not bricking routers with firmware in my experience. Sometimes it takes a bit longer than you think.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
Dang! This has been driving me nuts and I thought I found the answer here! Same issues here, I swithced from 150mb to 1gb service and updated my modem to the Arris Surfboard SB8200. But have never been able to get above 200mb+ from wifi or ethernet from the router. Ethernet from the modem Ive been able to get in the 900's. Comcast says its not their issue as they see the speed going to the modem and suggest I check the router settings. Ive checked that all QOS and traffic metering are not enabled. Ive tried other wifi channels, and now I even tried downgrading firmware to to V1.0.2.52_1.0.39 and even tried a few other ones slightly new than that one, and tried the most recent firmware. Right now on V1.0.2.52_1.0.39, my wifi is not going above 100 on 5g, wheter im standing next to the router or a few 100 feet away. Running out of ideas...

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
Maybe I wasnt clear, I have gone straight form the modem with ethernet, and speeds are accurate anythere from 600+ up to 930mb.
Then once the router is in between, speeds drop.

after downgrade to 1.0.2.52 => 800mbps down, 970mbps up.

Re: R6400v2 Connection speed
I 'm running V1.0.4.84_10.0.58 and upgraded my plan from 150 to 500 and could barely get over 180, on the 150 plan my speed was about 144mbps download so this issue definitely kept me from getting my desired 500mbps....you would think Netgear would FIX it
