R6400v2 Nag Screens Upon Sign-on

I have a Netgear R6400v2 AC1750 wifi router, running firmware V1.0.4.102_
10.0.75.

I placed it in service February of this year. It set up easily, and it works
as expected. It doesn't automatically download or install updates; you have
to press the 'search for updates' button, download if one is found, and then
install.

The current firmware version is my second update. I did it about a month
ago. Just yesterday, it began to give me two nag screens when I log into the
router's control panel. One pops up, you have to close it, then the second
one pops up, and you have to close it, to get to use the control panel. Both
nag screens want you to try or buy add-ons. Both were always available in
one of the control panel menus, but now they are presented when logging on.

Searching shows me that others have not been able to uninstall one (Armor
Security) of the two programs offered (Armor Security, and Circle parental
controls), once installed. I haven't installed either, but I'd like to get
rid of the 'hey buy me' nag screens.

The manual doesn't discuss the add-ons.

I don't use the Nighthawk phone app.

Does it sound like I'm stuck with these nag screens? I really don't want to
take a chance on downgrading the firmware, if that's possible.

Thanks.

You may want to clear your web browser cookies and then close those pop ups 3-4 times and then they should go away.

Re: R6400v2 Nag Screens Upon Sign-on

Hi, DarrenM,

Many thanks for the reply.  I've been out of town for a while.

I have tried your suggestion many times, but no luck.

I just did a factory reset, but the same firmware came back up, along with the nag screens.  I was hoping to get the factory shipped firmware re-installed, that had no nag screens, but no luck there, either.  Perhaps every firmware update updates the 'factory firmware' with which the router was shipped.  If so, there's no such thing as a factory reset with this device.

Wish I'd backed up the firmware the day I put this thing in service, so I could have re-installed it.  But, it may not have worked, either.

I wonder if this router phones home every time I log on, and the Netgear server sends the nag screens.

I'm running fimrware v1.0.4.102_10.0.75.

Thanks again.
