R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

My R7000 was bricked. After finally figuring out how to configure Terminal on MacOS to let me Ctrl-C the boot process so I could turn tftpd on, I can now reflash the firmware. Every version of the 1.0.9.x firmware that I've tried so far, inluding 1.0.9.6, 1.0.9.10, 1.0.9.26, 1.0.9.34, 1.0.9.64 (latest) continually reboots upon startup; presumably from a software crash. Not sure what is going on. I guess this wny so many people said "don't upgrade your firmware".

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

I spent way too much time on this. 😞

Yes! I ordered a new power adapter. This one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWHS8G2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And now the R7000 is working again.

So, if you think your firmware upgrade is causing your constant reboot cycle, it might just be your power supply. OMG.

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

Just installed 1.0.8.34 and it came up all the way. Then rebooted after 15 seconds. Ugh. I'm enormously frustrated.

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

Downgraded firmware to 1.0.7.12_1.2.5 and it's been running for 5 minutes so far. It's a record. Letting it run now...

Any clues why this is happening R7000 people?

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

The router reboots when I connect a wifi device with firmware 1.0.7.12. Downgrading to 1.0.7.10. What version should I be using or is there some proceedure I'm missing?

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

You could be having power supply issues?

I assume you have been doing the FACTORY RESET after each firmware change and re-entering settings manaully, not using a saved configuration? Not doing this can mask the problem and keep it happening.

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

Sometimes I can do the FACTORY RESET. Sometimes I can't when the unit won't stay up long enough before rebooting on its own.

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

0) plugged router into different surge protector

1) performed factory reset

2) waited for router to come back up, rebooted router and hit Ctrl-C in minicom window

3) started tftpd on router

4) sent R7000-V1.0.9.64_10.2.64.chk to router

5) router is rebooting continually (update it's hung)

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

Sounds like a hardware or power supply issue. No firmware version can fix that.

Re: R7000 1.0.9.x reboot cycle

1) plugged router into different surge protector

2) factory reset

3) let router boot

4) hard reset, interrup startup to get CFE> prompt

5) start tftpd

6) put R7000-V1.0.9.64_10.2.64.chk onto router

7) Router reboots about 6 times

😎 Router hung on 7th reboot with all lights blinking and was bricked here:

Do you have another power adapter with the same specs you can try?

Note, it runs for 10-20 minutes on 1.0.7.10 firmware.
