R7000 Beta FW 1.0.5.60 (New beta) vs V 1.0.6.40 (Old beta) - difference?
Just wondering what the difference between these two beta firmwares is? Why the shift backwards in terms of numbering? It's a bit confusing that a newer beta would have a lower number than an older beta.

We've been running Beta V1.0.6.40_1.1.90 on two R7000's since it was released. We haven't experienced any problems on either Router.
Sure would be nice if NetGear chimed in here to let us know if we're talking a step backwards, as the number sequence implies, or spells out the differences between the two versions 🙂

The firmware 1.0.6.40 contained Arlo support.
We're taking a little step backward to focus on the stability of the previous official released firmware (1.0.5.48) before adding the Arlo feature.

Would you recommend downgrading to 1.0.5.48 if you do not need Arlo support?

Re: R7000 Beta FW 1.0.5.60 (New beta) vs V 1.0.6.40 (Old beta) - difference?
Yes, that's the main difference.
Just to be clear, that firmware version 1.0.5.48 was an official firmware that was pulled out due to some bugs found.
The new beta 1.0.5.60 is the continuation of that version that fixes the reported issues.
If you experienced the said bugs reported then you may want to try updating to 1.0.5.60.

So may I ask if all the fixes listed in 1.0.5.60 are also in the older 1.0.6.40 or is there more?

Good question. I am running the older beta and am now wondering whether I should install the newer beta with the lower revision number.

If you don't need ARLO support, I would goto the latest beta (1.0.5.60). Its working great for me.

Would you still upgrade even if the older beta is working without issues?
The 1.0.6.40 beta is only the second firmware I've had without causing a problem with the 2.4ghz network after a week or so usage. The previous one was way back at 1.0.3.61_20140605_QA
One thing I've found with this router is that when you find a firmware that works, you need to stick to it.
With that in mind, the only reason I'd try the newer beta is if there were additional code fixes or security fixes etc. Else I'll stick with 1.0.6.40 which is currently at 26 days uptime.

Re: R7000 Beta FW 1.0.5.60 (New beta) vs V 1.0.6.40 (Old beta) - difference?
I too had been using 1.0,6.40 since it came out without issues. ElaineM's sticky post has a list of fixes etc for the new beta and the improved 2.4ghz connectivity appealed to me. So I loaded it and yes I'm having less irritations with my string of 2.4ghz IP cameras. All else appears to work as well or better than the .40 beta and not having to deal with configuring arlo support when I don't use any arlo products is a plus for me.
If any of the points in ElaineM's sticky appeal to you, by all means try .60. For me it seems to be (qualitative judgement) slightly better with still no issues.

Re: R7000 Beta FW 1.0.5.60 (New beta) vs V 1.0.6.40 (Old beta) - difference?
Thanks for the reply.
I did review the change list and improved 2.4G was the feature? that appealed here also. No drop outs with 1.0.6.40 but signal strength is curiously lower, (measuring via inSSIDer), than 5G where my PC's are located around the house. Guess thats good for 5G capable devices but not so good for our 2.4G devices.
Ahhh what the heck, I'll give it a go. Can always flash back if needed. 🙂
