My R7000 never booted back up after the 1.0.7.6 firmware update that I initiated trough the router web portal yesterday. I thought it was still updating when I didn't get a response after 30 or so minutes so I left it overnight but the power status light just kept flashing the same the next morning. When I finally power cycled it I got the same result: flashing power led, once a sec.
So I followed the "http://kb.netgear.com/19841/Reinstall-the-firmware-on-a-router-without-the-setup-CD-recovery-tool" article and I'm getting a TTL=100 response from the R7000 after setting up the network settings manually. The problem is that I've spent the better of my weekend trying to flash the firmware manually and no matter what I do TFTP2 does the "erasing Flash" step and proceeds to "upgrading flash" where it stalls after about 2/3 with the message "unable to get responses from the server" and tries again. Every time. Pinging the R7000 during the update process keeps returning 1ms TTL=100 responses so I've got one window telling me there's no connection and the other that there is. Doing it manually by activating windows TFTP and sending "tftp 192.168.1.1 R7000-V1.0.7.6_1.1.99.chk" displays "transfer successful" but the log shows that it only sent ~200kb at a speed of ~200kb/s out of the 27MB firmware file. Adding "-i" to the command as suggested on the Netgear support forum gets the file to transfer completely and without errors but the router, yet again, never reboots and behaves the same even after >20 minutes of "settling". On top of that after every unsuccessful try I need to reset the router since it stop responding to ping requests which makes the process excruciatingly slow.
I'm still under warranty and am probably just going to return it during the week but having wasted this much time trying to fix a new router is just ridiculous so I wanted to put this out as a warning. Hopefully there's someone who knows what else I could try before I'm forced to take the trip to return it.
PS. I saw a post about the vulnerability a couple of days ago, made a point of avoiding the Beta a couple of days later, but still got duped.

Hi Guys,
What did you do exactly to upgrade ?
You have to be careful because firmware upgrade is alway a risky process...
I upgraded offline my R7000 from my old 1.0.4.18 to 1.0.7.6 without any trouble.
Even all my parameters have been kept.
Only the GUI interface required an online update...

Mine updated from 1.0.7.2 to 1.0.7.6 with no issue either, EXCEPT that it was pingable from the Internet and the selection was grayed out. I had to reset the router to clear it up.

I followed the advice by Netgear and updated using the web GUI over ethernet cable. Nothing else was connected atm except for wan for the router to be able to download the update automatically. I've done this with all my routers since 20 years and never had any trouble. Are you saying that using the web gui is not recommended? Because i think it would be pretty important for Netgear to disclose this.
It feels like I've exhausted all options over the last two days and am simply dealing with faulty hardware. I've spoken to my reseller and they've agreed to exchange it for a new one or an Asus router in the same price range if I'd like and I see no reason to not take that deal.

Re: R7000 Bricked after 1.0.7.6_1.1.99 firmware
Hello Max_F,
Do you mean you bricked the router after an online upgrade?
I upgraded offline, I mean from a firmware file stored on my disk.
May be there is a risk in your case, but I don't know the reasons (bad temp file or other).
I think it is interesting to discuss this point with other users and/or Netgear support...

@Max_F If you can still ping the router, I suggest that you try to follow the steps from this link or try another TFTP client.
However, if you cannot ping the router anymore I suggest that you contact support to get an RMA.

Thank you for the suggestion Elaine! Yes, I'd tried with multiple. Unfortunately neither tftp, tftp2 nor tftpd64/32 made any difference. Strangest thing is that the router is still pingable and gives a perpetual TTL=100 response so I'm assuming I would need to break the loop with a jtag-cable if I've read the "unbrick your r7000" posts correctly. As I've said before the fix seems easy enough but would void my warranty. I'm waiting for a replacement unit right now but still have the old one sitting ready to be shipped if anyone has any commands they would like me to pass to it in hopes of reviving it.
