R7000 - Can't Use Genie Parental Controls
I am unable to access the parental controls section of the NETGEAR Genie desktop application.
I have an R7000 - Firmware Version V18.104.22.168_10.2.44
The Genie software is version 2.4.58, installed on windows 10 64bit with current newest updates.
When I choose the parental controls button in the Genie app, I get a "Checking router firmware" page and a spinning icon for "Identifying your router" that eventually spits me back to a message that says "It looks like you might not be connecting to the Internet through a supported NETGEAR router."
All of the other Genie functionality does seem to work, I can use my admin logon and see the network map and other similar settings, indicating that the Genie app does see the router at some level.
After quite a bit of rebooting and retrying all of the associated devices (the router, the PC, the modem) I tried the Android application for NETGEAR genie instead. On my phone, I was able to access that area of the Genie app, create and associate an OpenDNS account, add a bypass account, and also set filter settings. I can see by visting blocked sites that these filter settings also apply to the desktop PC successfully. This would seem to imply that both the OpenDNS account is working and also that the router itself is correctly filtering/enabled for the feature since the phone connects to it without issue. The process of elimination would seem to point to the desktop software or its connection to the router.
I could live with the android only control over the router, but the catch is that to add a bypass account on the desktop PC, I have to access the parental controls section of the desktop Genie app.
Which again, does not function.
I do realize that there are many posts on this topic here and on the OpenDNS site, but answers are vauge, old, or solved by updating firmware (and I'm on the latest already). I wasn't able to find anything useful in them, sorry about adding to the pile.
