R7000 Can't get above 480ish download

I just had my isp upgrade me to 600mb service and with any speedtest the highest reading is 480.

If I connect directly to the modem I get 660mb.

QOS is off, traffic meter is off and I have tried various firmware with no change. What gives?

Any ideas?

Have you tried to spoof (change) the WAN ports MAC address? Sometimes it works

Seems like no difference.

I had a similar issue with the R7800.  Not sure if this is your issue, but I documented my results here:  duckware.com/testwan2lan (look for results table in the article).

sorry, was that wired or wireless?  If wireless, duckware.com/wifi explains why that speed is more than likely 'normal'.

I'm trying to figure out a wired connection. No matter what settings I change I max out at approx 480mb but should be getting closer to 700mb

While running a download test (refresh several times during download), look at "cpu load" percentage at router's http://x.x.x.x/debug.htm web page.  If high, I suspect a problem with the router.  If low, I would run some tests between PC's on your lan to verify that can get above 900 Mbps.

Any other ideas? I've tried different firmware etc. and still max download is much less than what a direct modem connection shows.

I don't have a solution for you, but wanted to point you to a larger thread on the same topic here. After having just read through....some (but not all) have better luck downgrading firmware.  Presumably the more testing and perspectives contributed to the issue, the more likely we'll find a solution that works for most/all.

Thanks so much for that link. I downgraded firmware to  V1.0.7.6_1.1.99 and disabled QOS and am now getting rated speeds.

Something not programmed right in later firmware. Come on Netgear, figure out what you did wrong !!

Is this old firmware safe to use? I thought I read that a security fix was needed. If so, can that be applied seperately or is updating firmware the only option? ( meant to include firmware version from above post)
