R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

What's the verdict on the R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix? Does it help with the throughput/WiFi issues being experienced on the Nighthawk routers?  Is it a stable release?

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

I'm still having Wif-Fi connectivity problems with 1.0.9.20. Very frustrating.

What firmware version should I roll back to to get my Wi-Fi working properly?

Mine worked flawlessly before the current update. Now it's useless and knocked off a lot of my devices.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

If you guys have Chromecasts or any Google home devices that is most likely the culprit.

I had to unplug my Google home mini and uninstall the Google home app and WiFi became stable.

Google is rolling out an update today.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

Netgear totally sucks. All the firmware says is "Security Fixes". There are no related CVE's, no details of these are major or minor security issues. The download says BETA on the 1.0.9.20 file with no ETA of final release.

Come on people!

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

The verdict... not good!  Constantly dropping wifi (2.4 and 5) to any device whether it's android, apple, smart TV (now hard-wired)!

Physically cycling the wifi button on the router seems to re-set things and allow devices to reconnect until a random amount of time later when they all drop off again - very poor.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

My netgear genie kept telling me I had a firmware update and whenever I checked the update tab it would always say that there wasn't any. So I decided to look for myself and found the 1.0.9.20 firmware version so I decided to try it out. I am testing Iphone, android, and WIN10 PC video on both 2.4 and 5 ghz signals running a 8 hour long video (fireplace burning). So far nothing has cut out like everyone is saying and my computer is working just fine. speeds still same as before tested on many different sites telling me 70-75 download mbits and 10-12 upload mbits. Since I live outside the city limits I only get top 75 mbits DL and 15 mbits UL. Will check back tomorrow with results...

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

A quick update - following the suggestion here, I have set up a half-hour 'break' in the WiFi in the early hours of the morning in the hope that this would stop the randon WiFi dropouts.

Unfortunately it has not stopped them and I cannot see any pattern or reason for the dropouts.  As I type this the 2.4GHz has 'fallen over' - devices remain connected, or can still connect to it and the SSIDs (guest and regular) are still broadcasting but there is no internet available to anything that does connect.  The 5GHz connections are currently still OK.

Devices connected to the 2.4GHz have to be manually re-connected to the 5GHz channel.

Smart Connect has always been disabled, the 2.4GHz Channel has always been set to 'Auto'.

Manually cycling the WiFi button on the router has always 're-ignited' both... 'Turning it off and on again'!

Is this problem still being worked on?

Sure is, by Google and others.

There's a long running discussion over here:

That link already appears in this discussion, but there is no harm in repeating it.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

Thanks @michaelkenward I've just tacked a post into the discussion you mentioned.

The problem with the WiFi dropping coincided precisely with the firmware upgrade, and it's still there in 1.09.20 too.  I haven't had any other devices change.  Hopefully Netgear will at least announce something about this soon.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

There are at least two things going on here.

For some people the new firmware from, Netgear is the culprit. In rolling back to the earlier firmware can get your life back.

For others it is down to the Google bug, and affects all firmware. Rolling back the Netgear firmware does nothing.

If rolling back the firmware doesn't restore sanity, it is probably the Google bug, or you are one of the unlucky few to have come down with a double dose.

Google has been promising a fix for a while now – it took it a time to admit to the problem – but the first deadline whizzed by with nothing to show for it.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

Agreed with the Google issue. The Google play services beta still doesn't fix my issue with both the Google home mini and the Google home app.

I uninstalled the app and unplugged my mini and WiFi has been stable. If I don't do both my WiFi will go down.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

I have 1.0.9.18 on my R7000 and I'm not getting a upgrade notification from the router. Are the problems discussed in this thread upgrading from 1.0.9.18 to 20? Why am not not being notified of the 1.0.9.20 upgrade? I know I can install 20 over LAN but wonder if there's a reason why it isn't offered through auto update?

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

I didn't get the update as well. I did the beta and downgraded but I don't think it had been released to final version yet. I can be wrong.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

So 1.0.9.20 is a beta? That was lost on me. All I saw was "hot fix". If it's a beta it explains why we aren't being notified through the update checker on the router.

It can also take time for updates to hit those servers. Perhaps they follow the Windows model and time these rollouts so that everyone does not turn up at the same time.

Then there is the possibility that they want to let more computer savvy users have a go with the manual download before they inflict it on people who may not be so familiar with the process.

Yes the download file says beta. Also looks like there is a .26 version now.

I've just updated to  1.0.9.26

I'll report back if I still get the 2.4GHz dropouts.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

OK so.20 was still majorly flawed.  On to .26!  This one has potential.  One other note.  This all began with the integration with Circle in .10.  I love the parental controls it gives you but the loss of stability is crazy.  I may drop circle entirely.

Don't give up. The stability thing may not be related. If not the new firmware may have fixed it.

Agreed.  I'm still here.  Def not giving up on Netgear.  Just may have to use an old firmware until this gets fixed.  Wife works from home and uses Wifi. She'll lose patience soon too.

Re: R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.20 - Hot Fix

Oh I should say I am not using circle. It wasn't working well for me. I would also suggest Netgear post their beta versions better. I don't think we shouldn't have to see it is a beta by looking at the name of the download file. FYI everyone 1.0.9.18 is the current final release.
