R7000 Privacy Concerns

Hello,

Once again netgear is doing odd things. Recently with update V1.0.9.42 on the R7000 every 4 seconds the router will send a ping home checking the connection against netgears servers. The serial console is being spammed by pings home, I have turned off analytics, and there's no reason why this router needs to be checking the connection like that. I would understand if I had analytics enabled but I don't, and it's not even in router mode I'm using this in access point mode.

I previously saw that even with analytics turned off the router was still attempting to send data. (https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/Analytics-Turned-Off-But-Still-Sending-Data-...)

Please disable this...

Re: R7000 Privacy Concerns

Indeed this sound like a ridiclous 'call-home-feature' which as user you can't even control.

Netgear this is a bad practice.

Many vendors and software makers (even ones you have trusted for a long time) start lately implementing all kind of remote checks/datacollections/control which from all aspects including privacy is doubtful.

I.e. for me CCleaner lost all my faith with their stunts. So netgear doesn't stand alone in these practices.

Brgds,

Bas.

Re: R7000 Privacy Concerns

In V1.0.9.60 this is still an issue, as well as the my other thread about the analytics still connecting to Netgears AWS server to ping home saying the analytics is disabled which gives them the SN#, my IP, my geolocation via IP (which is very accurate these days).
