R7000 bricked during firmware update to v188.8.131.52 solution for windows 10
this is a step by step for R7000 with windows 10. blinking white light after firmware upgrade.
1. plug your pc/laptop into the modem and download the firmware from Netgear. save in c:\
2. plug the pc/laptop you are using into an ethernet jack 1-4. preferably you want to be close to the router and modem.
3. enable tftp.
a. Go to control panel,
b. Select large icons
c. Select programs and features,
d. turn windows features on and off "in the upper left" in popup scroll down to tftp, and telnet, select them both, press ok.
4. Set ipv4 to 192.168.1.10
a. hover over network lower right corner, right click on open network & internet settings.
b. select change adapter options "towards the bottom center"
c. select ethernet -select properties - "a little down" Internet protocol version 4 "click it" properties will become available. select it.
d. Select Use the following IP address. type out 192.168.1.10 in IP address field, 255.255.255.0 in the subnet mask, 192.168.1.1 gateway
e. Press ok
5. Open 2 command prompts (do not type parentheses when asked to type)
a. type in lower left on the desktop screen in the search bar "type here to search" "cmd" open 2.
b. in cmd window 1 type "ping -n 1000 192.168.1.1" press enter let it run
c. unplug power to the router.
i. depress the reset button hold.
ii. plug power in"with the power button on".
iii. wait for the second time it resets all the lights.
iv. let go of reset.
v. plug ethernet port in from modem.
d. look at cmd prompt running the ping, you should see the ping returning. "Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=100"
6. In the second command prompt window. (the one not running anything)
a. type "cd c:\" press enter
b. type "tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put XXXXX.chk" press enter, replace the X's with the version you downloaded from step 1 and saved into you c:\.
c. it will take 30secs-1min for it to transfer or error out for an incorrect file. it will not error out if the file size is 0. make sure it transfers the correct file size.
7. wait. wait. wait.
a. it will do its update and reset.
8. open a browser window and see if you can log online. finally
