R7000 firmware performance issues

I have gigabit internet I noticed after updating the firmware to 1.0.9.6 that performance suffered significantly.

Previously I would hit 500+ Gbps consistently on speedtest (never minding existing performance issues degrading the last 400 or so Gbps (which I can get in full plugging into the centurylink moden/router combo). After updating to 1.0.9.6 It dropped down to ~100-200 Gbps showing a serious drop in performance on the router. Rolling back to 1.0.5.70 improved things back to the original baseline. I tried going back to 1.0.7.12 which improved, but it was not quite as good.

Is there a known issue?

Did you checked if QoS was enabled on new firmware?

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

First thing I checked. Wasn't enabled as far as I remember. I would find it odd a firmware update would enable such a thing in the first place.

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

This firmware could enable because it brings dynamic QoS. If standart is disabled a dynamic QoS could be enabled. Please check it.

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

There's no Dynamic QOS setting anywhere, just the default one which is disabled

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

I went in and enabled Qos (which made things worse) and then disabled it again just to check and its still not any improved

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

I've checked to make sure no new features in 1.0.9 got turned on, nothing seems to be on and yet performance still suffers. I'm pretty sure at this point there was some sort of regression in the firmware

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

No a lot to go on here? More information is always better than none.

  • What features DID you check?
  • Did you RESET the router after installing the new flash?
  • After RESETTING did you re-enter manually ALL settings you required?
  • You said "yet performance still suffers"? What is the Performance problem? Wired only? Wireless Only? Both?
  • What is the ISP speed?
  • Did you DISABLE QoS?

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

Hi!

another customer with the same problem.

I thought my ISP had problems but by-passing the R7000 gave me 800+ Mbps towards fast.com.

I have a 1000/1000 link and I'm not getting over 420Mbps towards fast.com if I use my R7000,

before V1.0.9.6_1.2.19  I got at least over 600.

For reference:

Using an Turris Omnia router I get over 800+.

* QoS Disabled

* Reset done - didn't help

* Cable used

* IPS 1000/1000

What IS NOT:

Transfering big files from my machine to another one attached to the R7000,(cable), seems to perform the same as before

As a bonus: I have a strange WiFi problem towards my Android phones as well after upgrade.

I will need to conduct more tests now because until 2h ago I thought this was my ISPs fault and the Google

led me to this thread.

Cheers,

 Henrik

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

Hello!

today I replaced my R7000 with my Turris Omnia and now I get the performance I expected.

Fast.com reporst around 870Mbit vs 420, and onther tests reports over 600 vs barely over 300.

So I'm happy again and my R7000 is collecting dust until a new firmware is released.

Cheers,

 Henrik

Re: R7000 firmware performance issues

Hi,

I've upgraded from R7000-V1.0.9.6_1.2.19 to R7000-V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 without performance issues.

But from upgrading R7000-V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 to R7000-V1.0.9.18 performance went down with 40%...

Did a qos db download, but no new  version.

So did a downgrade to R7000-V1.0.9.14_1.2.25 and all is ok again..

Please Netgear do a performance test before releasing the new firmware...
