R7000 slow speed on mobile devices latest firmware
I just recently decided to switch from my rented Comcast modem to my own. I have the Netgear CM500-100NAS cable modem and for the router I have a Netgear R7000P AC2300 Smart WiFi Router.
Before connecting the new stuff, I ran a few speedtests. On Comcast's hardware, I got the following speeds using the Speedtest app on an Apple iPhone 8 Plus:
Down = 239
Up = 12.2
Ping = 12ms
After hooking up the new hardware mentioned above, updating to the latest available firmware for the router of V18.104.22.168_1.0.93, I noticed a significant drop in speeds for downloads on mobile devices only. Here are the results that I am now getting:
Down = 38.8
Up = 11.9
The above results are connected to the 5.4ghz channel.
The 2.4 ghz channel is at the following:
Down = 42.3
Up = 11.4
I will note that my original speed tests after hooking up everything, where the same or very close for either 2.4 ghz or 5.4.
The speed settings for each channel are: Up to 600 Mbps for 2.4 ghz and Up to 1625 Mbps for 5.4 ghz.
Using my wireless laptop, which unfortunately I did not run speed tests before changing out the hardware, my results I believe are OK. The results there for 2.4ghz channel are:
Down = 81
Up = 11.81
Ping = 11ms
My desktop, connected via ethernet cable, is getting normal speeds:
Down = 239.62
Up = 12
Ping = 15ms
I have not yet tried changing the wireless channels. I did however check for other devices on the same channel as mine. My 2.4 ghz network is using channel 10 and my 5.4 is using channel 153. I was the only one using these channels at this time.
I did not want to mess around changing too many settings because this is all brand new and is not impacting all wireless devices. Just mobile devices (iPhones and Ipads).
Dynamic QoS is off at this time. That was default so I have not changed it yet.
