Google's Chromecast Audio is properly working for streaming music (mp3) from my smartphone to my stereo emplifier .
However streaming mp3's stored on a HD attached via USB to my R7000 router is not working.
Please inform me about proper settings e.g. in order to solve this issue. It would be nice to listen to Jazz music stored on my HD directly.
Thanks in advance

It may be better off to get a NAS most especially if you have big files.
How big is the external hard drive?

Re: R7000: streaming mp3 from hd ( USB connected on router )
Hello Elaine
Thanks for your reply mail
My answers to your questions are as follows:
I like to stream by using my Samsung S5 Smartphone ( for example by using the Solid explorer Android app with Solid explorer Cast plugin)
I can stream from my PC (windows 10) via the Chrome browser (after installing the google chrome browser extension)
The USB drive attached to my R7000 has 1Tb capacity
Thank you in advance for your reply

Can you try to use a different app to stream it like NETGEAR Genie?

Re: R7000: streaming mp3 from hd ( USB connected on router )
netgear (my media) android app detects 3 sources: my smartphone, my PC and the router (N R7000 logo). However when I select R7000 I got a message like : 'not able to collect data'. After renewing ,'source map' and starting media services again there's no improvement. So it looks like there's no communication with the router. Although I can see the contents of both USB drives withe file explorer. Mybe I need to changes router settings?

Re: R7000: streaming mp3 from hd ( USB connected on router )
Do you have the latest firmware installed?
I have tried this from my iPhone and it's fine.
I wonder if it's an Android thing. What's the OS of your S5?

Re: R7000: streaming mp3 from hd ( USB connected on router )
My Samsung Galaxy has Android 6.01 OS.
I believe It has something to do with my router settings:
I can make back-ups of my Computer HD (Surface pro 10, Windows) and a USB HD connected to my router to a second (back-up) HD also connected to my router. This is running smootly!
However when I touch the R7000 logo (Netgear Genie) on my Android smart phone the 'app' isn't able to collect data from R7000's usb drives. (renewing source map and restarting media-service doesn't has any effect
I just started Netgear Genie on my windows 10 PC and I got the following:
System doesn't exist..........
Still confusing me
Regards

Re: R7000: streaming mp3 from hd ( USB connected on router )
No problems on the Android.
Can you try to use a thumb drive for the mean time and see if that will be read?
If the same thing happens, I suggest that you factory reset the router then reconfigure it.
