R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
Hello all,
Yesterday evening, around 10 PM EST my R7000P router stopped broadcasting on the 5Ghz band to all devices which were connected previously. 2.4 GHz is still working, and all the devices that were originally connected to the 5 GHz band were able to be switched over easily. This morning, however, I performed some basic troubleshooting to try and determine why the 5 GHz has just up and disappeared.
All lights on the R7000P are lit appropriately, I reset the router both by unplugging and using the power button on back, as well as resetting my modem, and no dice. Following general troubleshooting practice, I then logged into the router through a hard wired connection, reset the router to factory defaults, disabled automatic firmware updates, and reconfigured the whole system. Just like before, only the 2.4 GHz band was broadcasting, the 5 GHz is nowhere to be found on any devices.
I was running the latest firmware, which at the time was V1.3.1.64_10.1.36. I got on the support page and attempted a rollback to V1.3.1.44_10.1.23, the previous firmware version, and the issue is still there. At this point I'm lost, any other suggestions as to what needs to be done to resolve this?

Is the 5ghz led on?
Do you have smart connect turned on? If so, this combines the ssid's of the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz band so it looks like 1. the router then controls which band devices connect to.

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
Does the gui show the 5ghz as enabled or disabled?
Can you go into your router settings and change the 5ghz channel?
Try for 149-165.
What region are you?
After the rollback did you factory reset? this is always recommend whenever downgrading firmware.

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
1) Yes the GUI is showing 5GHz enabled,
2) I tried changing the channels but it seemed to make no difference,
3) I'm in the EST time zone, and
4) I performed a factory reset before the firmware update, then again after, still no difference.
I also contacted Netgear support directly, but they weren't able to help at all.

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
I would try going down one more version of the firmware as I've read several threads of issues with 5ghz dropping.
Some things that fixed some (not all) of the issues:
Enabling/disable in the menu 5ghz
enabling/disabling wifi using the wifi button on the router
enabling/disabling the smart connection.
If its already on, turn it off for a couple minutes and then reactivate it.

That does not reset the device.
How do I perform a factory reset on my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
My network DM200 -> R7800 -> GS316 -> PL1000 -> Orbi RBR40 -> Orbi RBS50Y -> RBS40V

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
I did not mean I factory reset, just a normal soft reset by powering down and powering back on. I also performed the factory reset, both by pressing and holding the reset button with a pin on the back for 90 seconds, as well as through the Netgear Router app online, neither of which made any sort of difference, other than resetting the router, SSID, and password to default, but even then only the 2.4 GHz band was displaying on all devices, no 5 GHz band anywhere to be seen.

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
10/29/2019 Edit: I contacted Netgear support, they also were unable to resolve the issue, and sent me a new replacement R7000P, which I just hooked up. Oddly enough, I have no 5 GHz band on this router either, Smart Connect is disabled, all lights on the router are on properly, including the 5 GHz light, and it's a brand new router, not refurbished, and even running firmware V1.3.0.20_10.1.1, which is one I haven't tried on the first router, so at this point I give up, unless anyone else knows what's possibly going on.

Smells like something odd at your end.

I completely agree, but at this point I have no idea what it is, so I'm just leaving Smart Connect on and calling it quits.

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
Second 10/29/19 Edit: I went through the advanced settings and disabled the 2.4 GHz broadcast while keeping the 5 GHz broadcast enabled, and I lost all wifi in the home, so I'm definitely not getting any 5 GHz wifi in the house. I also tried disabling and enabling 5 GHz again, but no dice there still. I'm truly stumped.

Re: R7000P 5Ghz Band Disappeared
If you look in your routers region settings, is that what its set at? sorry I should have asked that and not what region you are.
