R7000P World of Warcraft Random Disconnects

I was having major issues staying connected to Blizzard/World of Warcraft since updating to a Netgear R7000P.  This went on for several weeks.

Comcast Xfinity Service 150 mbps down / 12 mbps up
Netgear CM1000 Cable Modem
Netgear R7000P with v1.3.1.44 firmware

Internet and connection to WoW/Blizz have been stable for 5+ years. Since putting in the new cable modem and router, I was getting Blizzard "error 51900319" disconnects every 30 - 60 minutes. Infuriating and I was ready to start throwing new hardware in the trash piece by piece. Enabling Dynamic QOS solved it immediately. Other than the router reboot, no loss of internet connection or need to reboot the modem.

I'm the only one in the house and no reason I should need "Dynamic QOS" with that bandwidth. Doing nothing else but playing WoW.  Must be a bug with Netgear firmware/software.

I'm satisfied it is now working, but not a happy customer.  May try open source firmware options.

I got the same disconnects every 2hrs. I can also see the same thing for twitch chat and streams. Tried to enable QoS but from the 250mb/s I should have I only get like 150 now thanks to QoS

@JUstMove,
FW version are not interchangeable between routers, even if the model numbers are close. You have not said what version you have?

1.4 1.24 is the latest available FW for the 7900P. If you'd like assistance, please confirm your model and FW and we can move forward from there.

Hello,

Model is
Model: R7000P|Nighthawk AC2300 Smart WiFi Router with MU-MIMO
FW is V1.3.1.44_10.1.23

It works with QoS enabled. The speedtest server was busy and couldn't get me 250 with QoS on. Tried another speedtest server and it seems to work that way.

Though I agree with OP it should not drop connections without QoS. Old Netgear WNR2000 did never do this with QoS off. Same setup just faster connection now hence the swap to the R7000P.

Cheers

Thanks for confirming, and sorry for the typo, I was on my mobile device.

Strange,  I agree you should not have to enable QoS to achieve this stablity given your above average connection speeds.   Apprently however, enabling it prioritizes whatever these services require.  I don't believe it worth it trying to figure out why as long as you have your bandwidth and performance.  This might change with the next FW release.

Re: R7000P World of Warcraft Random Disconnects

Recently bought this same router:
Netgear Nighthawk AC2300 - R7000P with V1.3.1.44_10.1.23 firmware

I have faced the same reported issue of drop connections every 1 or 2 hours, I play online games that require an unbroken connection and I have received many disconnections as soon as I changed my router to the R7000P. I will try to enable QOS as mentioned to see if this fixes the problem palliatively. But hopefully in the next firmware update this will be fixed

Re: R7000P World of Warcraft Random Disconnects

Updating my original report.

With QOS turned on, I am still getting disconnected, roughly, every few hours.  This is much better than every 15 - 30 minutes without QOS.  However, I now have to be sure to exit WoW and restart before attempting any long running scenarios or group content to, hopefully, prevent being disconneted in the middle of critical activity while in game.

Any update on if Netgear deems this a valid issue and is working on any fix?

Re: R7000P World of Warcraft Random Disconnects

My final update on this issue.

I messed with QoS settings repeatedly.  Setting my one PC to highest and everything else lower and/or down to lowest.  I continued to receive disconnects from World of Warcraft every 2 - 3 hours.  I have had what I thought were unrelated periods of DNS failure when web browsing - site names not resolved.  I reload the web page and it works fine, usually.  Looking around the internet, there are lots of issue with this router and basic networking - DNS, DHCP, wired performance.

I plugged my old reliable Asus N66U back into the network and viola, no issues for 4 days.

This Netgear R7000P is going in the trash and will be replaced with something OTHER than Netgear.  I won't be buying or recommending Netgear networking equipment again.
