R7000p slow

Hi,

Can anyone solve this? I have a 350Mbps contract with Virgin & use their router in modem mode. I have a desktop wired connection to my nighthawk & easily get 350Mbps dowloads on it, but tests show my Router only receiving about 200Mbps apparently. Thus, my wifi is not performing as expected.

Re: R7000p slow

Which tests are only showing 200mbps?
Are you testing over 2.4ghz or 5ghz?
Have you changed channel for the wireless?
What device are you testing on? This is key as a 1x1 antenna solution isn't going to have the same speed as a 2x2 device.

I'm using the speedtest directly from the router! Sorry if that wasn't clear. It's part of the netgear service

Re: R7000p slow

Try using a hardwired device and use the browser based sppedtest, and try different servers on there. The built in Netgear doesn't always give accurate results.

Re: R7000p slow

Hmm. I believe I already stated in my original post that I was getting 350 on a "hard-wired" connection. My question is why the router 'thinks' it's only receiving 200!

Re: R7000p slow

Because the built in speedtest app doesn't always choose the fastest server. It usually chooses the closest and if the closest one is a slow server, then your speeds will show as slow.

Re: R7000p slow

Think of the Netgear speed test as a check to see if you have connection to the Internet and not a true speed test.
