R7800 Bridge mode - VLAN/Bridge settings - NO output

Dear Netgear Suppot,

I'm setting up my router to bridge mode:

- upstream I have a 5Ghz mobile phone running as hotspot and succesfully set as internet source

- downstream I need to run one LAN port and both 2.4 and 5 Ghz wireless ssid's

I followed the instrucitons here: http://kb.netgear.com/25599/How-do-I-set-up-my-Nighthawk-X4-to-Bridge-mode?cid=wmt_netgear_organic

But after enabling the ports mentioned above in VLAN/Bridge settings , neither the LAN port nor the wifi ssid's will show

Please advise what needs to be done, thanks!

Alex

P.S. I'm running firmware v. 1.0.2.20

In bridge mode you will lose wifi (it is used to bridge to your phone).  The LAN port should give you internet service.

Hi Stephen

Thanks for the quick reply, the LAN port is NOT giving internet service

BTW why would I loose the use of WiFi in downstream?

What would then be the ideal settings to share my phone's internet through the router?

Thanks again

Because in bridge mode the wifi in the R7800 is used to make a client connection to the phone.

Ideally you'd have a router that supports WISP (wireless ISP), and the R7800 does not.  Unfortunately I don't know of any Netgear router that does.

Bridge mode is probably the best you can do with the R7800.

IS the port functional (LED light lit?)

Yes, it's lit

Another way to solve this would be to use the router as a wifi extender/repeater, is this possible? If yes, where can I find this option in settings?

I still need wifi to connect in upstream with my other LTE wifi router (which I understand will be set with a fixed IP) and in downstream will all my connected devices

Please advise

Thanks

Alex

No wifi and no LAN service means that the bridge mode isn't functioning at all, correct?  So that says something isn't right.  Can you reach the router's admin web page from the LAN? Or nothing at all?

A WiFi extender would do what you want, but the R7800 doesn't include a wifi extender mode.

A long shot:  You could try enabling the guest network on the R7800, and see if that stays up when you change to bridge mode.  I don't think it will, but it is easy to try.
