R7800 cant reset password remotely

Hi all

Just trying to get away without doing a factory reset as I cant get onto the router to see if i have made any customisations to the config.

Trying to do a password reset as i forgot the password, classic - and i work in IT Security!

When i do the reset process on routerlogin.net I get to the security questions as I obviously have the serial number.  When i answer the questions, the text changes to random text just as click the submit button.  I then get an error message saying the answers are incorrect (they are definitely correct unless my dads changed his name!)

Anyone else had this?

Will do a factory reset if have to, but was trying to get round it.

thanks in advance.

Mat

   Firmware version?  "remotely"?

> [...] and i work in IT Security!

   If you say so.

Reports of problems with Netgear router password recovery began when
the (buggy) "feature" was added.  A standard settings reset is the usual
way out.

   Nice try.

(Note: "cant" is a word, different from "can't".)

Re: R7800 cant reset password remotely

Thanks for the reply, even if it did attempt to belittle me a few times, CANT I just ask a question without the grammer police looking down their nose at me?

I thought this was a help forum, but if you are an example of a 'guru' of netgear, I'll stick to other manufacturers thanks.

Wont be asking any more questions, so dont worry about checking if my apostrophes are correct or not.

Oh and by the way, by using the word remotely, I meant from a device on the network, rather than plugged into a console or whatever, but at least it gave you another opportunity to correct my grammar.

"grammer"?  The spelling police appear to pose another threat.

Making fewer errors might improve your chances of not getting
undesired help.  Which part of "constructive criticism" bothers you
more?  If you're proud of your ignorance, just say so.  (I guess you
just did.)  Some people find that good use of language improves
communication.  Some apparently don't care.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for "Remote
Access" or "Remote Management".  Or "remote".  See the (potential)
problem?

Re: R7800 cant reset password remotely

wow, you really are very clever and self important arent you?  You're one of those 'great fun at party' types.  I bet you're on lots of social media sites slagging people off for all sorts too, why can't you just be nice?  Do you just sit monitoring this site waiting for victims?

Perhaps I'm dyslexic, perhaps I'm in a rush as I have two kids biting my ankles and a days work to do, maybe I've had a couple of beers when typing, or maybe I just rely a little on spellcheck but I just came on here to ask a simple question, I didn't think any questions on here were being prioritised by quality of grammAr or spelling, you clearly have too much time on your hands and just wish to demonstrate your superiority.

Maybe if you were just a little helpful instead of so condescending I may have solved my problem, but no, I need to go and read the documentation again.  (I have - its not in there)

thanks for nothing, other than having another person on the list of people I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.

Demonstrably, I wouldn't be the only one.

> Maybe if you were just a little helpful [...]

Did you not get your original question answered?  What's the
remaining mystery?

> thanks [...]

You're welcome.  (Or, if you prefer, "Your welcome.")
