What was the actual error message?  As usual, showing actual actions
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

   Was that error this one?:

      Couldn't mount file
      (X) The disc image file is corrupted.

As described in:

   Did you read that?

Did you "click on" this ".img" file in the file browser opened by
clicking on the "Browse..." button in the Firmware Update/Upgrade page
in your browser (as the instructions say), or did you "click on" this
".img" file in some File Explorer window outside of the web browser
(which is exactly what not to do)?

What, exactly, did you download from where?  Did you get (and read)
the Release Notes (and the instructions therein)?

"attempted to upload" _what_, exactly?  How, exactly?

> [...] Next steps??

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.

Re: R7800 firmware update corrupted and cannot download, how can I get support to assist?

I downloaded a  compressed file from here:  https://kb.netgear.com/000060527/R7800-Firmware-Version-1-0-2-62...It brought me to here:

Note: To avoid wireless disconnect issues during the firmware download process, NETGEAR recommends that the firmware upgrade be performed on a computer with a wired connection.

  1. Using the Download Link below, download and extract the new firmware to a convenient place such as your desktop. The filename after extracting is R7800-V1.0.2.62.img

    Download Link:http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R7800/R7800-V1.0.2.62.zip

  2. Using a web browser, The URL is http://www.routerlogin.net.
  3. Click ADVANCED>Administration>Firmware Upgrade Page.
  4. Click Browse and locate the upgrade file R7800-V1.0.2.62.img.

I extracted the file ending.img and clicked on it to upload per below, received a corruption error.  Now what???

  1. Click Upload.
  2. Wait for the upgrade progress bar to complete and final prompt to appear
