I received an email from Netgear letting me know that there was a firmware upgrade availble and that I should download and install it on my router. I used the app on my iphone to check to see if there was a firmware upgrade availble. It showed me that there wasn't any upgrades availble. I compaired the firmware version on the router with the firmware version in the email and they were different. Why can't my router find the current firmware upgrade?
Firmware on router: V1.4.1.50
Is this the current version for my router?

Those emails go out from time to time. There seems to be no logic in the timing.
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
That page will also have a library of firmware and drivers for your device.
You can look for more recent firmware. You can even download a copy and install it yourself, which is a more reliable method than using an app and wifi.

With my weak psychic powers, I can't see it.

Which "the app"?

Trust no one, I always say.

One pretty reliable way to find out:
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads. (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".) Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want. Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions. (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
When that fails because of a deficient User Manual, try:

Re: R7900P FIRMWARE UPDATE
I want to thank everyone that offered me assistance with this issue. I ended up going to the netgear link I was given and downloaded the firmware upgrade and installed it onto my router. Of course that ended up reseting my passwords and changing my logins. Not a problem so I just reset all of my login names & passwords.
Thanks again for the help.

It shouldn't be "of course". Firmware updates rarely reset the device. That happens only with major updates. You can also reduce the hassle by saving your settings before you do the upgrade and restoring then after if the thing does reset itself.
