Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
Both routers came with 1.3.0.8... both disconnected once or twice a day. Upgraded to latest 1.4.1.24 did exactly the same thing. I have Charter Spectrum cable internet. Will be changing to AT&T fiber as soon as they wire my neighborhood. Can take this thing back to Costco at any time and probably will. Only reason I bought this POS is because I knew I could return it.

Doubtless there will not be a massive sell-off of shares.
Thanks for the laugh. 😉

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
After I updated to Firmware 1.4.1.30 I am happy to say I have not had ONE single connection drop on this router. Thanks Netgear for FINALLY fixing this annoying issue!!!

Congrats. But you're probably the last person standing that still has an R7900P.

Great news! Thanks for posting this. Please let us know if you continue to have sucess with this firmware over the next several days. If it seems stable, I'll be upgrading to this firmware also.
Thanks again.

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I know..... it was either that or a super outdated Cisco router... I sucked it up and just restarted it everyday.... the range is not bad, it was just the disconnects... but now it seems it is fixed. which router did you change to?

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I went with the Synology RT2600ac. I love the DSM/SRM interface and capabilites. SRM 1.2 has even better parental controls. And I'm getting the MR2200ac mesh router to fully cover my home. So glad I returned my Netgear router for the Synology RT2600ac

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I just installed the latest firmware (1.4.1.30_1.2.26) today. The previous version (1.4.1.24_1.2.20) was solid for 63 days. I know that this would be a good fallback if the new version is quirky.
I will post updates.

Good move. IMHO the Netgear firmware is crap right now and does not seem to be getting any better. Sold my r8000 and r8000p and went all Ubiquiti, see sig, in my case. Just works unlike the Netgear.

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
Just got my latest Cosco flyer and they have a special on this router - $70 off to $129.99. Guess they were tired of being stuck with such a boat anchor. BTW my Synology AC2600 works flawlessly! I guess i keep subscribed to this thread out of morbid curiosity.

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I’ve had the new firmware on for a couple weeks with no problem. Before would only stay connected with old 1.1.4.6 firmware. How does it take a company almost a year to fix this?

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I'm happy to report, after 1 month (10/26/18 - 11/26/18), I've been running V1.4.1.30_1.2.26 without having to reboot my router.
Sure, I still believe it took NetGear entirely too long to resolve this issue, but with many things, it is what it is and I've made it to the other side.

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
Glad to hear you are having success with the firmware loaded.
I agree that it takes Netgear way to long to come up with fixes. I sold my r8000 and r8000p due to on going firmware issues and in my case moved away from Netgear. They for years were my go to vendor, but after the recent experiences I said enough is enough and moved on.

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I've been running with the latest firmware version for the last 2 weeks and have had no issues. Good strong connections, no drops, etc. So far, so good (knock on wood)!

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
That's good, finally. But honestly after the way Netgear has handled this issue over the last year I would not use another Netgear router, even if it was given to me for free,

Not the forum. Got to be that thorn in your paw.
Also I have been able to assist folks.

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
I see posts here that the 1.4.1.30 firmware solved the issue.
Yesterday on 12/28/2018 I upgraded my router from stable V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 to newest 1.4.1.30 firmware (file: R7900P-V1.4.1.30_1.2.26.chk).
But after one day on 12/29/2018 23:00PM my internet dropped - same issue as other problematic firmware.
Formerly with old firmware V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 I never see one disconnect in 3+ months..
reset the router and downgraded it back to the old stable V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 firmware again (file: R7900P-V1.1.4.6_1.1.85.chk)
Looks like the only stable firmware is 1.1.4.6_1.1.85 - no one reported connection drops running this firmware
BTW after downgrade the GUI Version still stuck at newest 1.4.1.30 code - will monitor if this will affect the stability of 1.1.4.6 version .

Firmware Version | V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 |
GUI Language Version |

Re: R7900P dropping internet requiring reset every few days
Happy holidays...
I am commenting on your issue with 1.41.30.2.26.
I have been involved as a beta tester for the different iterations of the firmware for more than a year now. I go back to the infamous days of the firmware crashing at exactly every 48 hours. With that said, my experience with the current release has been quite good. The first time I ran it, it ran for 46 days. I had to reset it only to discover that the issue was with an outage with my Internet provider.
Might I suggest the following; Run the newest version and when (or if) it fails, try connecting a device such as a laptop or VOIP directly to your modem to make sure tht the modem/Internet signal is good.
Also...
When you do the install, just let the Netgear software do it's thing. Don't delete or reset or change any parameters or anything else..Just let the software do it's thing.
Please keep us (the users here) posted on your progress.

" Might I suggest the following; Run the newest version and when (or if) it fails, try connecting a device such as a laptop or VOIP directly to your modem to make sure tht the modem/Internet signal is good. "
--->my comment<---
1) I had 3 wired and 7-8 wireless devices connected to this router when the drop happened with lastest code 1.41.30.2.26
2) while dropping issue happened - my internet was working for one of my computer connected thru wifi.
I was watching video for 10+ minutes continuously after my other family member complained they can't join Wifi or access internet.
3) While the issue was there, I tried to disconnect/re-join my 2.5G or 5G wireless network - none of any computer or iphone/ipad can join wireless - all failed with password failure thou I entered the correct password.
4) When the issue happened I can't access my wireless router from any of wireless or wired computer or iphone/ipad
So I had to reboot router thru button and downgraded it back to V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 then all good till now
Before upgrade I runV1.1.4.6_1.1.85 for 3+ months without any issue.
5) In 2018 I ever run several different firmware
All those firmware except V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 hit the exactly same issus as in 1.41.30.2.26 on 12/28/2018
5) BTW I ever exchanged 2 other R7900P with Costco and all stable with V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 and drop in other firmware every ~24 hours
6) I will live with stable old firmware V1.1.4.6_1.1.85 and stopped trying......
