R7960p breached

My R7960p was breached via the internet and fully reconfigured

i have since reset it, updated to the latest August/September 2020 firmware update.

Can any tell if its safe to use again?  Is it cleaned of the breach?
Is there any way to check?

Any insights will greatly appreciated.

Re: R7960p breached

I suggest not having remote assistance enabled if you are worried about someone gaining control of your router. We also offer Armor which protects your network from these type of attacks.

Re: R7960p breached

That's the even more scary thing... my router's "remote access" was disabled.  My understanding is that the R7960p had a firmware vulnerability that allowed hackers to bypass everything to gain access to my router through the internet. The breach occurred before Netgear issued a firmware update in August 2020.  At that point the unit was over one year old and Netgear refused to help.  I am not sure whether or not to trash the unit even with the update.  Can anyone provide any insight?
