Thanks for the clarification 🙂 The R8000 is taking a "time-out" for a few days (the family isn't as patient as I am with technology) so I'll try the update in a day or so and report back.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

madhatter01, I would disable Router's Pin (WPS) and also select Keep Existing Wireless Settings for all. I don't have android, I haven't experienced ANY connection using .90 to date.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

So who is having the sleep issues? Post please so I can help Netgear. Thanks.

1. Is the device you are using 802.11ac? If so what card.

2. What OS are you using?

3. Does it show connected but limited or no connectivity?

Both, Limited and no connectivity. What I don't understand is I have no issues with my R7000.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

Remote Management is broke with V1.0.0.90_1.0.39. I just power-cycled the router and it's still not working even using the URL the router provides for itself on the remote management page.

I'm still getting "dead connections" on my Nexus 5 connected on 5ghz. Really tired of that.

The range is still not what the R7000 was.

Trust me I understand. I am about to throw this thing out the window. I have been working on it all day. I may end up going back to bestbuy and get a wrt1900ac.

You should return it for a refund.

Just installed a WRT1900Ac. I wanted to love the R8000, its just has too many issues. The R8000 will sit here for a couple days to get Netgear one more chance.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

Loaded firmware: V1.0.0.90_1.0.39 to R8000 and my experience with this router had worsen.

After a day or two, running speedtest.net, latency would hit as high as 250ms and speed would dragged down to 5Mbps on downstream. As soon as I rebooted the router, latency and speed are restored immediately, back to 10ms, 102Mbps down / 5.12Mbps up. It seems like there's a memory leak or something is causing the slowdown gradually.

Pretty obvious that there's something wrong with the router or the firmware.

All test are done in wired, not wirelessly.

Also, Chromecast still couldn't to connect to R8000 router. I have to use other AP for it, which is pretty frustrating.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

I was not going to say this because I didn't want to poison the pool. I'm a tester 2nd and a consumer 1st. I don't mince words and don't give a (blank) about being politically correct. I said on several occasions' this was not ready for release in my opinion. I even said you should change the Company Name to White Starr and this should be called the Titanic. But hey I got two routers out of it and I'm set now for quite a white.

Found the issue if you are getting limited or no connectivity. Its the intel 7260ac driver. I dropped down to version 16 from 17 and the issues seem to have gone away.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

Update:

So updated(dirty upgrade) to the latest FW last Fri. The router has been up and running since then and both wired and wireless have been functioning well on my network. No real difference seen between updated FW, from what I can tell.

I had the R7000 and the Genie app for the PC and iPhone last year was just plain broken, I was reluctant to install the latest June release. I was pleasantly surprised that the Genie software works( PC & iPhone) and I was able to access all functions of the router.

The push for this was the 1.5 Seagate external HDD that is being used to store data, and movie files for streaming, but also the PC backup feature works great.

The R8000, thus far has been working well and performance is there. I still have the WRT1900AC and will use it as a wireless bridge. Going to try it in AC wireless bridge mode. Also from what it sounds like Linksys has received the wifi drivers and OpenWRT should be receiving it soon so they can finally produce a stable open source FW..

Finally I can say the R8000 and the 1900AC are similar in performance, but the build quality of the Linksys is by far better.

This is a simple question, but on the R8000, is the Chromecast attempting to connect to the 2.4GHz band? I also have Chromecast, and it works flawlessly with my R8000.

I was able to connect my Chromecast to R8000 successfully, too.

Is your R8000 configured in router mode (by default) or AP mode? Did you use a PC or mobile device (iOS/Android) to setup your Chromecast to connect to R8000?

Chromecast only supports 2.4GHz. What's your R8000 2.4GHz wireless settings (wireless mode, security type, wireless channel etc.)?

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

I also found similar wifi issue with V1.0.0.90,
as r8000 sometime lost internet connection, when smart connect activated and connected with new imac (win8), once smart connect deactivated, internet back to normal

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

I just got this router last week, this FW was available while I was setting it up and applied it immediately, currently at (V1.0.0.90_1.0.39) I'm very disappointed with the experience. I have to AC devices at home and many 5GHz, none of them can connect now at more than 54Mbps; my macbook air connects at 1Gbps to Airport Extremes but is stuck at 54Mbps with this router... same with the rest, even my Nexus 5 is now topped at 54Mbps. I've tried everything, enabling/disabling 'smart connect', disabling the 2.4GHz radio, tried all the channels... same results. Is this a known issue? This router is useless with this problem.

Is it safe to rollback to a previous FW? Anything you recommend?

Thanks

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

rafmun,

This is strange. What 5GHz wireless mode and security type are in use? Are they "Up to 1300 Mbps" and "WPA2-PSK[AES]"?

Have you tried resetting the R8000 to factory default? Use a paper clip to push and hold the reset button (on the back of router next to the power button) until the power LED blinks.

Re: R8000 Beta FW V1.0.0.90

Yes, I've tried reset as well... I discovered yesterday that both the Mackbook Air and the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 identify the 5GHz as 802.11a instead of 802.11ac 😕

rafmun,

How could you see the connection mode from Nexus 5 or Nexus 7?
