You are still posting in a wrong thread - this is about the subject "R8000, VPN and dropping of MD5 signed certificates". According to the V1.0.9.28_10.2.32 and your earlier posts, you have an R7000. And here - in Netgear terms (not mine) - the R7000 Firmware Version 1.0.9.28 from the early days of March or early April 2018 is about current (and the last one in the live update). When you consult the R7000 Support page you can find the R7000 Firmware Version 1,0.9.30 Hot Fix which does inherit the change from the MD5 to the SHA256 signed certificates (not only) for OpenVPN. There might be some issues with the language/translation and the UI might not be OK ie. in Russian. No idea on how long it will take before the hot fix version will become standard, the text issues fixed, and a version supporting SHA256 signed certificates will become available in the live update, for the R7000 (or almost any other model....).

You are totally correct. Completely my mistake. Just decided to install the version 30 from the beta link. Normally I hesitate to install it like that but I do want the vpn working without an error.
So it looks like it works now.

@AbhayB since this update I am having massive issues with disconnects and cannot connect to many of my games that I play. I never had any issues before this update. Is there a log I can send you that can be reviewed?

Is the R8300 going to be added to the list of routers to do?

@AbhayB what is the status of the update for the R7500v2? Your last comment in this thread said that it was "planned before the end of [June 2018]", but that date has already passed.
