R8000 as Access Point

My R8000 is now an Access Point, connected to an Asus RT-AC1900P which I just purchased. The R8000 just started re-booting every 5 minutes for no reason. So that, and problems with the 2.4Ghz Radio (eventually turned off), USB connection problems, and random loss of Internet pushed me to replacing the R8000 as my wireless router.

The R8000 "AP" is still on firmware: V1.0.3.54_1.1.37 (I stayed with it as later versions gave me more Internet problems). In the last 24 hours both the RT-AC1900P / R8000 AP have done well - fast 5GHz speeds - no drops at all. I should note that I again had to turn off the R8000 2.4GHz radio because of very poor performance  for upload / download speeds.

My questions for those using the R8000 (or other models) as an "AP":

1. Should I update the R8000 firmware to the lastest available? Any advantages or problems?

2. Any preferred performance settings? I have: Implicit Beamforming = Off, Smart Connect = Off

Thanks.

Re: R8000 as Access Point

Up to you on updating but sometimes the firmware can have security fixes in it.

You will have to test those settings to see what works best in your environment.
