R8000 daylight savings not working

Hi,

The daylight savings check box doesn't appear to add an hour to the current time.  Under [Advanced] > [Security] > [Schedule] > [Time Zone]

is there a way to force a NTP sync?  or am i doing something wrong?

I'm running firmware: V1.0.3.32_1.1.21

Thanks in advance.

Patrick

Re: R8000 daylight savings not working

Same problem occurred this week. I had my router set up with NTP sync and Daylight Saving for GMT+12, Auckland (I'm in New Zealand). Last week my schedule worked just so. Monday, my schedule is working an hour late, as if DST has been cancelled.

I think the DST dates have been set wrongly somehow. DST here ends on the first weekend in April but the router has actioned it on the first weekend in March.

My workaround has been to adjust the schedule by an hour, but I'd prefer a proper fix.

Re: R8000 daylight savings not working

Curious - can you enable telnet in the debug.htm (using ie. http://192.168.1.1/debug.htm ), establish a telnet session, and run some commands?

I'm keen to see some things ... not only because of the New Zealand DST ... but alos because I see rid***** things on my R9000 here when it comes to time zone and DST, too.

First - check date ...

root@R9000:/# date
Wed Mar 8 18:40:00 GMT 2017

Further on, let's check the TZ variable ...

root@R9000:/# echo echo $TZ
echo GMT-1GMT,M3.5.0/2:00,M10.5.0/2:00

Note: This R9000 is configured to GMT+0100 with DST (Central Europe).

R9000 V1.0.2.16 Time Zone.PNG

Further on, let's have an eye on two more processes, the syslogd and the crond shich (most likley) have the $TZ on the process commald line, too:

root@R9000:/# ps | grep GMT
10243 root 368 S syslogd -m 0 -T GMT-1GMT,M3.5.0/2:00,M10.5.0/2:00 -c
10287 root 380 S crond -c /tmp/etc/crontabs -T GMT-1GMT,M3.5.0/2:00,M1

root@R9000:/# cat /proc/10287/cmdline
crond -c /tmp/etc/crontabs -T GMT-1GMT,M3.5.0/2:00,M10.5.0/2:00
root@R9000:/#
root@R9000:/# cat /proc/10243/cmdline
syslogd -m0 -T GMT-1GMT,M3.5.0/2:00,M10.5.0/2:00 -c 7551
root@R9000:/#

Let's rip this $tz into parts ...

GMT-1 GMT ...these would be the normal ant the DST time ... for us in Central Europe, it must be GMT-1 GMT-2 ... becuase normally, we're one hour ahead of GMT, and in DST, we're two hours ahead of GMT.

M3.5.0/2:00 ... DST ON ... that looks OK to me, March, last week, DST on is at 02:00

M10.5.0/2:00 ... DST OFF ... this is wrong ... October, last week, DST off happens at 03:00 local

In brief? This is a mess!

Patrick,

All the NTP procesing does happen in GMT (standard time) - re-sync form NTP should not have an impact beyond of very few seconds of adjustment.

Failed at the first hurdle Smiley Sad - debug.htm returns a 404 error.

Is your router's IP address 192.168.1.1?  That is the normal value, but sometimes the router will choose a different address range.

No it's not, but I allowed for that. I got a request to login which succeeded, then a 404 error. If I'd used the wrong address I'd have just got a timeout error from the browser.

Try a login on the standard UI, without adding the /debug.htm to the URL. Once in, change the URL accodingly.

The same 404 error...

Though you likely realize it - the .htm is needed.  /debug won't work.

Hm, no /debug.htm on the R8000 @StephenB?

Could be.  I don't have that model, so I can't confirm.

Possibly its only enabled in beta hardware???

Yes, aware of that and also tried /debug.html for good measure

I don't have a Python system available. I managed to track down the original Netgear utility but that just gives  'send failed: 10057'

Re: R8000 daylight savings not working

yeh i'm in NZ too, I'm guessing the calendar manages when to turn Daylight Savings on or off is out of date?

I wonder how the start and end dates of Daylight Savings is managed - is it within the firmware, or queried externally?

Anyone?

Re: R8000 daylight savings not working

From some brief investigation, it's internally, but not from the ubiquitous zoneinfo or tzfile ...
