R8000 is a brick after firmware update

Last nite I noticed a firmware update available for my R8000 WiFi router. during the install, the update stalled and my router has been a brick ever since. I can ping it at 192.168.1.1 but the white power light just flashes. I've tried the tftp image transfer but it just timeouts. Please help. This router is less than 18 months old. I've been happy with it until now.

   The TFTP recovery scheme is a multi-step procedure which offers
multiple opportunities for user input, hence user error.  By itself,
saying that you "tried" it doesn't say much.  Especially when using a
command-line program, copy+paste is your friend.

   That looks plausible.  (Although there's a newer "Firmware Version
1.0.4.56 - Hot Fix" available, too.)

   Now, how, exactly, did you try to send it?
