R8000P Router WiFi Consistently Drops
I have searched this forum and online for help with an issue i've had with my R8000P for a couple of years. I have found zero solutions, I have seen many others having the same issue with no other option but to deal with it or replace the router. The 5GHz band on my router consistently drops connected devices and won't allow reconnect, or it completely loses the 5GHz band where we can't see it from any device. I've tried rolling back the firmware 3 version, hard resets, etc. I am forced to reset my router multiple times a week to resolve the issue. I've also found the 5GHz band to randomly drop while streaming or on video calls, its very frustrating. Unfortunately, it looks like this router uses a chipset that 3rd party FW makers like DDWRT won't support.
I did have some very similiar connectivity issues with my older Netgear router, but nothing that was this bad. This will be my last netgear router, I have zero faith and with no REAL support from them I can't see going down this path again.
Has anyone found a solution for these issues that have plagued the netgear routers?

what actual versions did you install?
The one i usually recommend for the R8000P is version 1.4.1.42.
reason why is the newer version have netgear armor and some of the r8000p's struggle with it. Not sure why.
Try installing that version, doing a factory reset, and install it. Don't use a backup configuration for the install.
what modem/gatway do you have?

I have tried .66, .64, .62 and .50. I have had these issues with all of those versions but they have gotten worse with each upgrade. If .42 is the most stable, I'll go back to .42 for now and see if that is any better. I am pretty sure I was on .42 before and had the issues.
I always do a factor reset pre and post FW upgrade incase theres some residual junk left over. As for modem, I don't think its really relevant here since its a WiFi specific issue, its a TP Link (Can't recall model) modem (without any WiFi capability). This is the only WiFi access point in the house at this point.
Thanks.
