R8000P firmware V1.4.1.30_1.2.26 issues: 2.4g WiFi not working and VPN not working

Wondering if anyone else is having the same issues as me when using firmware V1.4.1.30_1.2.26:

#1.) The primary 2.4ghz WiFi doesnt appear in ANY Windows PC WiFi network list, but IS showing in Apple iOS devices - iOS devices CAN connect to this WiFi network. 2 Windows 7, and 2 Windows 10 PC's CANT see this 2.4g network and WONT connect, even when manually attempting to do so. The Guest 2.4ghz IS working, and I've had to resort to enabling it as a work around as I do need 2.4ghz for a couple of older devices.  I've manually tried different channels (auto/01/02/03/04/05/06) on the primary 2.4g WiFi and tried different modes (54/360/750). Security is WPA2-PSK [AES].

#2.) VPN stops working - This is the one reason I bought this router, and it has _never_ been a stable offering. What a shame. Every time I need it, I find that its never there, and I have to reboot the router.

While I know the answer is "go back to older firmware"  I'm just wondering who else out there

Re: R8000P firmware V1.4.1.30_1.2.26 issues: 2.4g WiFi not working and VPN not working

damage31,

I recently posted a topic in this community for an issue that may be the same as what you're experiencing:

R8000P-won-t-broadcast-2-4Ghz-on-channels-1-11

What I discovered is that the router is no longer broadcasting the 2.4Ghz band on channels 1-11.  In my case, it's being broadcast on channels 36-48.  This can be verified by using a mobile app like WiFiAnalyzer or NetGear's own WiFi Analytics.

This results in any WiFi device that only supports 2.4Ghz (In my case a video doorbell) not "seeing" the 2.4Ghz WiFi SID.  As with you, even if I manually input the SID and password, the client device never connects to the 2.4Ghz SID because its built-in WiFi transcever is not designed to operate on channels outside of the 1-11 range.

I too thought this issue began when I installed firmware V1.4.1.30_1.2.26, but reverting back to older firmware and performing a factory reset did not resolve my issue.  I've tried all sorts of combinations of settings, but nothing has worked for me.

I'm very interested to know whether your problem is the same as mine.

Regards!

Re: R8000P firmware V1.4.1.30_1.2.26 issues: 2.4g WiFi not working and VPN not working

.....I forgot to mention that, like you, devices that support both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz can connect to the 2.4Ghz SID because they are designed to operate on the upper channels.  So this masks the issue and makes it appear to be a client device problem when in fact it's a router problem.

Is this the latest firmware available for the R8000P? Is there a beta firmware or hotfix perhaps? I am fed up with the performance of this router!
