I just changed my wifi setup with my Cams. However If anyone with Experiance might suggest something better, Let me know.
I've been wondering about How many connections per 5ghz antenna the router can handle,
and handle while the Cams are monitoring. 200 kbps each, 2gb day each.
I've noticed that sometimes when the cam sees activity ( which it emials me in 1/2 second)
the cam will go Off Line & reconnect.. so I was thinking the 2.4ghz may have been overloaded.
---- I'm guessing there are 6 Ghgz antennas & I recall something about 4 connections per antenna ??
---- However, the Smart connect put the first 4 cams on the First 5Ghz, and the 5th cam on the Second 5Ghz.
Can 1 antenna handle more than 1 CAM transmitting 200 Kbps? ( 2Gb per day)
I've got my R8500 set to Smart Connect.
Everything that I could Hardwire I did ( Netgear Switch, Desktop, Laptop, Printer, Tv, Sattellite, 3 Rokus, & 2 Hopper Joeys)
Small 1,100 Sq ft one floor house.
Router is in Living Room where most of the devices are in 30 feet, only 1 wall.
1 cam & 1 ipad will be in back, but I turn 1 antenna sideways (router at the hallway corner) and the signal went to Max)
..
My setup:
5 Nest Cams I put on 5G ( cams are on monitoring 80% of the day)
9 iHome wifi plugs ONLY uses 2.4G ( 2 different timers going on/off different time of day)
1 Nest smoke alarm only uses 2.4G
My 2 ipads & 1 iphone normally picks 2.4g, I've been thinking about deleting 2.4 and force them to 5.
