R9000 + CM600 | Plex Server Not Available Outside of Network

Cannot for the life of me get Remote Access to work without relay. I am running Plex off my Nighthawk X10 R9000. It’s connected to a Netgear CM600 so Double NAT is not my problem.

The Private IP address and Public IP address are the same in Plex Settings. I’ve come to be aware that’s not normal.

I have searched through all the Plex forums and Netgear forums and only found one person who had this exact issue and a resolve was never posted. That was back in November of 2020.

Anybody have any clue what could be causing this?

Changing my port number from 32400 to 32401 in Remote Access resolved my issue.

What does "relay" have to do with it?

I ask because Remote Access can mean various things and "relay" is new one to me.

Netgear has been playing around with "remote" features.

Remote Management is now Anywhere Access in the Nighthawk and Orbi apps | Answer | NETGEAR Support

an actual screen snip of what your plex's (not the routers) remote access settings would be more helpful.

As well as going over what you've tried and the errors your getting. Details are key.

Relay relays the server through Plex and limits the bandwidth to 2mbps for PLex Pass users. The quality is unbearable.

Here is my Remote Access settings. It says available for 30 seconds then goes unavailable. IP addresses are the same for priv and pub.

I have basically tried everything that is why I am coming here. I can't forward the port because it's running off my router. Bridge mode would do nothing cause I don't have a double NAT issue. I have manually specified the port. I have reset UPnP.

OK. That's not Netgear "remote access" as I now it.

I did say that these labels can be confusing. Maybe that's why changed its label to Anywhere Access.

That looks like a low bitrate setting, but this is unknown territory to me.

Maybe @plemans is more familiar with this stuff.

What do you mean you're running through "relay"?

Are you talking where plex says its unavailable but will run through their servers?

What version of plex are you running?

have you tried manually setting the port and then following the guide on from plex?

https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289506-remote-access/

I know even with mine that sometimes i have to disable/reenable remote access as it'll go offline. Its a plex issue

Heres a screenshot of the router Plex information. As stated above I have tried everything including manually setting the port.

Re: R9000 + CM600 | Plex Server Not Available Outside of Network

I do not want to use relay whatsoever. Unchecking that doesnt do anything. Resetting the router doesnt do anything. Restarting plex doedsnt do anything. Disabling and reenablling remote access doesnt solve anything.

So from reading about relay, you still have to have you plex server online to use it.

So your server is online and working, but for some reason its forcing it to go through relay.

You'll need to follow plex's faq on remote access to get it working

Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
