R9000 router - Wanting to add a R8000 as a AP
I have a r9000 router that is working fine but I have a dead spot in the back of my house and my detached garage. I have an old r8000 router that was replaced by the r9000. I have gone through a lot of netgear information on the setting up a router as an access point but nothing works as the documents state. Any clues?

Where is it failing in the process?
Describe exactly what you're doing, where the error is, and whats going on. Its tough for us to help based off, "its not working"

Re: R9000 router - Wanting to add a R8000 as a AP
When I try to setup my old R8000 on my network, as an access point, it tries to take over the setup of the R9000. I have connected the R8000 internet port to a port on the R9000 per the netgear documentation. I turn on the R8000 and then I lose WIFI altogether. I can login into both routers and see two different setups. I have reset the R8000 but it does not go to factory settings it keeps my settings. I tried using the Nighthawk app but it doesn't even recognize that I have added the other router, and in a few seconds states that I no longer have WIFI and the app dies.
CM1000 -> R9000. wanting to add an access point (R8000) if I can to extend my WIFI coverage without degradation.

Are you actually putting the R8000 in access point mode?
before connecting it to the r9000, connect to the r8000 and switch it to access point mode. Then connect it to the r9000

Not much to go on there.
The best way to convert a router to AP mode is probably to do it "off line".
Disconnect R8000 from anything. Reset it while turned on.
Remove PC from Internet.
Plug R8000 into PC and connect to 192.168.1.1
Set up R8000 in AP mode.
Disconnect R8000. Turn it off. Connect PC to network. Connect R8000 to R9000. Turn on R8000 and it should set itself up as an AP off the R9000.
This is not the same process as described in the manual for the R8000.
