Restore R7000 firmware from Sabai back to Netgear

I'm looking for help on how to restore my routers OS from Sabai back to the original Netgear.

My router is the R7000 and running on Sabai 6.15.0001 -ARM K26ARM USB VPN-64K.

I have downloaded the latest firmware update from Netgear support and tried to update through the Sabai admin, but I just get an error seconds after and the router automatically reboots.

The error that appears is: /tmp/flashu7EFs7: Bad trx header

Can anyone shed some light on how to solve this please?

Thank you!

Most people here won't be familiar with Sabai and this forum is only for stock firmware. You'd be better off contacting Sabai support

Routing: NETGEAR R7800 - Voxel Firmware 1.0.2.88SF & Kamoj addon
Switching: 2x NETGEAR 8-ports (GS108v4) / 1x NETGEAR 16-ports (JGS516v2)
Desktop: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - Server: Intel Core i7-7700K - NAS: Intel Pentium G4400 - Cruncher: Intel Core i5-7400

Re: Restore R7000 firmware from Sabai back to Netgear

It seems that Sabai might have altered a lot of things about the R7000? They ship and sell the R7000 with their firmware.

================

All router purchases will be made via SabaiTechnology.com. Support can be reached via support@sabaitechnology.com or by calling 864-962-4072.

The above was on their site.

Re: Restore R7000 firmware from Sabai back to Netgear

In general, settings created for alternative firmware will not write back to the stock firmware.

Third party stuff has settings that simply don't apply to the Netgear firmware, and vice versa.

I wouldn't risk it. There are times when it isn't even recommended to reload settings create by Netgear's own firmware.

   Read it again?  I see no one asking about settings, only "my
router[']s OS".

@nick_a,

Have you tried TFTP?

If that doesn't work, you will likely need to contact Sabai support mentioned earlier.

Re: Restore R7000 firmware from Sabai back to Netgear

@shadowsports, personally I'd be reluctant to try this? Sabai sells the router and OS as a package. It is possibly they modify some internals as well, even put a chipset in to handle VPN they have? I'd think if it was just a firmware install they'd be selling it? Even DUMAOS partners with Netgear to sell some routers, but those are not standard ones at least. Not knowing that Sabai did you could be asking for trouble.

The Netgear XR500 with DumaOS is essentially the R7800 with new firmware.

Beta tests were on the R7800. So any hardware changes, if any, are probably minimal.

And boy did they put it in an ugly box? Probably to justify the bloated price.

Re: Restore R7000 firmware from Sabai back to Netgear

Using serial console maybe the only way to restore to Netgear firmware. I have had to do that when running DD-WRT and then wanted to reinstall Netgear.

Here is a link to a good writeup. Requires opening the covers and also a USB to serial cable. This writeup assumes a windows PC.
