Router R7000P Randomly Rebooting

for the past few days this router is randomly rebooting or turning off, about 1 year old, is that the expected life of one of these units?

Re: Router R7000P Randomly Rebooting

A couple of issues could be a cause

- overheating

- faulty power supply

- bad configuration. might need a factory reset and configure from scratch

Routers should last at least several years, if not longer

Routing: NETGEAR R7800 - Voxel Firmware 1.0.2.88SF & Kamoj addon
Switching: 2x NETGEAR 8-ports (GS108v4) / 1x NETGEAR 16-ports (JGS516v2)
Desktop: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - Server: Intel Core i7-7700K - NAS: Intel Pentium G4400, 16 TB

Re: Router R7000P Randomly Rebooting

My R7000P router functioned perfectly until the f/w was updated to V1.3.1.64 (latest f/w as of 5/6/2019 per Netgear website) then it would not reboot successsfully.

Got pissed with it and replaced it with another brand that has been rock-solid through firmware updates.

Decided to troubleshoot R7000P by letting it reboot for several hours.

It finally settled down and rebooted successfully to where I could connect to it via ethernet and downgrade the firmware to V1.3.0.8.

I chose this version arbitrarily.

This f/w version has allowed the R7000P to reboot and settle down within 2-3 minutes.

I have used the R7000P for several hours, then turned it off.

Then I turned it on, and it rebooted within 3 minutes as normal.

SO, NETGEAR, PLEASE FIX F/W V 1.3.1.64

Hope this helps you frustrated NetGear heads!

Re: Router R7000P Randomly Rebooting

it is sad how poorly this 1 year old router works. I will be replacing it with a Ubiquiti, more expensive, but the remote work requirements i think it is necessary.

Re: Router R7000P Randomly Rebooting

Important update July 27,2020.

I decided to have another go at troubleshooting why this R7000P would not reboot successfully.

It turns out that the R7000P requires a power source rated for 12V 3.5A, and the supplied power adapter was 12V 1.0A.

I purchased a NetGear 12V 3.5A power adapter on eBay.

The R7000P now boots up in under 3 minutes.

With the 12V1.0A power adapter it would sit there and reboot for a few hours before booting up.

Hope this helps.
