Running Firmware for WNDR3400v3

Downloaded Zip & Extracted WNDR3400v3-V1.0.1.38_1.0.68.chk  Type says "Recovered File Fragments" 6,813 KB

When I right click/Open, double click or Click on "Open" Drop Down Box it either asks for an app or gives me a Link to the ZIP file again.  Tried to download the Genie but no luck.  Is this router TOO old for support = released 2012.  OR am I doing something wrong.  Basically a default, default computer non techie these days.  Gave up trying to figure this stuff out when I donated my XT to the local school.

Model: WNDR3400v3|N600 Wireless Dual Band Router

Who, exactly, says what, exactly?  Windows File Explorer?  What does
_it_ know, other than that the file type is ".chk"?

Who said that you should do that?

   Yup.  RTFM failure.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least). Read.  Look for
"Upgrade the Router Firmware", and use the manual ("Locate and select
[...]") method.
