Hi
Firstly.....I'm a real beginner so any help is appreciated!
I have a security Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and camera(s) connect to my Nighthawk router/modem. I use DynDNS to gain access remotely to the DVR which is forwarded via the Nighthawk to the DVR address. The DVR has a simple password to gain access. I was just upgrading the Nighthawk to the latest firmware - and by chance looked at the admin logs...and in particular at the access to the DVR system (please see parts of the log relating to DVR address 192.168.0.11). This appears to show numerous access points- some at very strange times. When I "WhoIS" the IP "From" address, it shows origin of Italy, China, USA and the like. My question please - am I reading this log correctly....and more importantly do I have an security problem with unauthorised people accessing my DVR.
Thanks again

One final request please - can you point me in the right direction as to the "steps" to set up an appropriate VPN to protect this device
Consult the VPN section in Nighthawk's manual.

Re: Security
It's really not a great idea to expose simple, password protected devices to the Internet. You should use a VPN.

Not a very detailed description.

What is the actual port-forwarding rule? If you're using _external_
port 80, then you can expect to get probes from all kinds of places
looking for a Web server. I don't know what you use to "access
remotely" this DVR. If it's a Web browser, or some app which allows you
to specify the port number, then simply using a different external port
number might stop much of this stuff.

Define "simple". Making it less "simple" is usually wise.
> [...] You should use a VPN.
More complicated, but also probably more effective. I'd start with
the easy step, and see if you need to do more.
