Seemingly random disconnects

Hello attempting to solve a problem that's a minor issue but been plaguing my home network for the last half a year. Usually deal with the disconnect as it's gone within 5-30 seconds. (Duration seems random as does frequency and time of day.) In an attempt to investigate further before contacting my ISP (Xfinity/Comcast) wanted to eliminate the possibility of it being the Router first so I went to check the logs and I saw something that coresponded with about the latest time it happened. (I'm a gamer and usually playing games when I notice otherwise i'm not on the internet. Happens equally during competative and uncompetative times so I don't think it's anyone messing with my network from the outside but i did see this curious log, displayed down below the main body of this post.)

Now I'm aware a DoS attack would be more on the level of hundreds/thousands of these popping up, but I am curious as to why one error would correspond with the time we lose connection? Let me further elaborate to the network I have in hopes that it clarifies a bit for troubleshooting.

I use Comcast's Modum in Bridgemode running it straight to the Nighthawk Netgear R7000 AC1900 and from there it provides Wireless access to most of the devices in the house save for 1 device. This includes 3 Xbox Ones, 3 Laptops, and up to 3 phones (if we connect to it). 1 Xbox is hardwired, mine in the living room. When this event happens everything goes down, wired and wireless so it's not just affecting one. I have thought to try connecting my laptop directly to the modum during this event to try and eliminate that the problem is happening at the router but the speed at which I would have to move does not make that feasible. UPnP is enabled as much of the online forums say for multiple xbox's on a network, and I should clarify it is not just the Xbox's affected during this time. The Laptops will disconnect as well. (I am unsure about phones since they usually will just switch to their dataplan if no signal is available.)

So any advise before I start the grueling process of confirming to Comcast some of the step's I've already confirmed. (Turning off and back on, checking the wires, ect.) I had read in one topic to turn off the Port Scan and DoS protection because the router wouldn't be able to defend against that anyways and it might cause issues so I have done that tonight, but will be unsure as to whether that fixed it or not. Looking for other suggests, and again this is a fairly minor but persistant issue sometimes happening 1-5 times a night. I am unaware if this does this during the morning at all or the afternoon since I'm not normally home or awake during those times. xD

Not sure if firmware informatin would be valuable. I am aware their is an upgrade as I am sitting at Firmware Version V1.0.8.34_1.2.15

Thanks for any help I can get!

Re: Seemingly random disconnects

Hi Zilfer,

Did you encounter the same problem with latest firmwares? If you haven't tried updating it, I would suggest to upgrade and check if that resolves your concern.

Re: Seemingly random disconnects

We're also having a similar issue.

We had started having issues with our Chromecast - 1st generation, so it only sees 2.4ghz. It will say it's connected, but there's no Internet flowing through it. I don't know what version of the firmware we were running at the time.

As of yesterday, my husband upgraded to V. 1.0.9.12 and as we attempted to utilize the Internet after that, 2.4ghz still isn't working, and 5ghz works most of the time, but in the middle of trying to watch Netflix on the TV (TV sees the 5ghz, has Netflix as an app) it will just suddenly cut out. I can see the wireless, and our modem (through Comcast) still has wireless turned on through it - that wireless is working, I can connect & have Internet, but the Nighthawk is getting no Internet through either channel.

Currently, my husband is in the process of doing a Factory Reset. I sent him a link for the ~1.0.4 firmware versions, which seem to be more stable. But for now, we're seeing if re-inputting info after FR will work.

We've had the r7000 for less than a year - since February, it worked really well in the beginning, because we had a lot of problems with the built-in wireless on the modem. I don't know what has changed between then and now, the issued started a couple of weeks ago - we hadn't made any changes since we got it, until updating the firmware yesterday. It's been set to auto on the channels.

So yeah, we're really confused & frustrated. Neither of us can game for very long before it craps put on us (both using 5ghz band).
