Speed throttling with a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000
I have been using my Nighthawk for years as my WiFI modem and DHCP server. I have a Gb wired network throughout my house and the Nighthawk was connected to a VDSL + modem delivering 70 MB/s down and 20 MB/s up. All good.
However yesterday I swapped to Gb fibre with my plan all but guaranteeing 900 Mbs down and 450 Mbs up. I have run numerous speed test on devices connected to the Nighhawk Gb ports and am getting 260 up and 260 down. Over WiFi (using the upto 1300 Mbs on 5Ghz) I am getting the same if in the same room as the router dropping to as low as 100 Mbs up/down in other rooms.
I ran speed test on the nighhawk itself (on the QoS page) and it reported 432 down and 360 up.
Question 1: Why the difference between what the router says and my computer running speedtest.net?
Question 2: Can the Nighthawk X6 R8000 even handle 1Gb on the Internet port? Will it be throttling and should I buy a newer modem?
Re: Speed throttling with a Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000
I think I have found part of the answer. Netgear Armour.
Turn it off I get 472 MBs down and 409 Up
Turn it back on, 240 down 220 up
So Armour is halving my speed. I assume I should just turn it off all the time. Is there a Netgear router that does not have this huge performance hit when using Armour?
