Not really. It depends on the box on the wall at your end.
Fibre connections often come with a pretty basic Optical Network Terminator (ONT) that ends in an Ethernet port with no clever features. In that case you just plug a router into the ONT. But ISPs like to make life simpler for themselves by supplying kit that does everything, including wifi and Ethernet. That is when the fun starts.
Some ISPs supply devices that you just cannot use in bridge (modem only) mode.
