Router does not recognize my Passport USB drive from back port - only from fron USB port

just my guess the back usb may not put our enough power for that usb drive you are using.

Is this a powered usb drive?

As far as I know it is not though I am not exactly sure what determines that

It is a Passport 2.0 USB drive made by Western Digital

what I am asking is do you have to plug a power cord into the USB drive?

Simply a USB cable - nothing else
