Unable to connect to L2TP VPN through my R6700v3 - at my wits end.

I've been trying to connect to my work's VPN server, but have been consistently running into errors in which the connection times out. I've determined that the problem is in my network because when I use my neighbors Wi-Fi (they have the same ISP as me), I'm able to connect just fine. This means that it's not the ISP, and that my VPN settings and authentication are valid.

My router is the Nighthawk R6700v3, running FW version V1.0.4.84_10.0.58.

I've tried the following steps, to no success:

  • Forwarded the relevant ports to my laptop (and when that failed, I even tried forwarding all the ports)
  • Setting my laptop as the DMZ server in the config page
  • Setting the router to respond to pings from the internet
  • Setting NAT Filtering to Open and Disabling SIP ALG
  • Disabling Port Scan and DoS Protection

Even with all of these, the Windows 10 VPN client complains that it was unable to reach the other server.

Is there a setting I'm missing? It this router just not compatible with what I'm trying to do? I really need to be able to get in to work form home during COVID-19, so any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Update: I did a full factory reset as I saw suggested in another topic, and that didn't solve anything.
